Erm, you don't have to worry about driving at the wrong side of the road. As long as you can drive, it does not matter if you're driving a LHD car or RHD car. Unless.....you're.......a........WOMAN?!?!?! :Q

What kind of jingoistic garbage is that? He's got an opportunity to live somewhere else and all you can offer is "America is superior"? Have you been to Australia? Perhaps you could enlighten us as to how they are inferior "in every facet" to us.

Amen, sounds like the sort of opinion from a guy who doesn't even hold a passport because "Why would I ever want to leave America?".

I wouldn't be able to drive (bye bye 2002 Honda Accord SE) for at least 1-2 years until I got used to driving on the wrong side of the road. I'd probably spend more time exploring the outdoors (since it doesn't rain 9 months out of the year) and RossWIFE would be closer to her family.

I can kiss good bye to the latest & greatest electronic/computer toys but I'd probably take my desktop, 19" LCD, laptop and Canon A40 with me.

You only get 1 chance in a lifetime, I figure fsck it and do it.

Whaddya think?

Move to New Zealand! Its pretty close and a helluva lot nicer! No poisonous anythings. Nice weather. Good beer. Lots sheep. Variety of climates to choose from (desert, rain forest, mountain, prairie (that doesnt look like the right spelling for some reason), ocean front, volcanicly active areas like yellowstone (Rotorua), etc). We went there for a month for a vacation and absolutely loved it. I would check it out if you are planning to move to that part of the world

RossMan,

Go for it! There is always the slim possibility that you might regret moving, but I would take that chance over the regret in later years of not giving it a shot.

Actually I have been to both the U.K and Hong Kong within the last year and a half.

Everyone has the opportunity to live somewhere else Fausto. Yes I feel America is the greatest country in the world. If you don't feel the same way, why don't you go live in a country you think is better. We sure wouldn't miss you. Everyone was going on and on about how absolutely wonderful Australia is. I was simply offering a different perspective. Australia has it's problems and negatives just like any other country. How the hell do you know he would be so much happier in Australia than in the States?

I was merely suggesting to the original poster that he might want to take a look at seeking his changes within the U.S. He didn't take offence to it, maybe he understood what I was trying to say. Unlike some people that just want to bitch about something. Why don't you just butt out Fausto.

was all that I found questionable. America is good - I'd rather live here than Australia - but better in every facet is wrong, just as Canada is better than the US in many ways and inferior in many ways. His wife would almost certainly be happier in Australia because of her family proximity.

Oh, how utterly predictable. "Why don't you leave if you don't like it, Fausto?"

Did I ever state that I would chose to live in AUS over the US? Nope.

Did I say anything about not liking the US? Nope.

What I did state is that you didn't add anything to the benefit of the thread besides some flag-waving. The originator of this thread wanted pros and cons regarding a move to Australia. I've never been there, so I stayed out of it. Unless you've been there and can actually offer up something of value to this thread besides your mindless post 9/11 patriotism, I suggest you take your own advice and butt out as well.

As you are already aware I totally did not take offense to your post and you brought up a valid point. Having lived most of my life in Portland, OR in the U.S. I have only had a small taste of what our great country has to offer. I'll always know that the U.S. is the best country in the world but I'm always open to expanding my horizons and giving something new a try which I think as I'm turning 30 (in 2 years 3 days) would be a nice change from the norm.

Now I want you and Fausto to kiss and make up, no tongue please and no pics!

Ok. I just made soup and lost my appetite. Can anyone reccomend a hot deal on some brainwash? I could use some right now.

And if the above was true, I'd be the exception that proves the rule.

Ok, so maybe no one can say "Dont go to 34th and Makelly in Brisbane!" But, a general con would still apply, as "America has alot to offer have you experienced it all".

So why dont YOU butt out and realize that ross ASKED for pros and cons, so he's GETTING pros and cons.

And, if it was me, I would be posting the "Should I move" thread AFTER I had moved!! I would LOVE to go to Ozz!!

How exactly am I sacrificing my life by considering moving to Australia for a few years? Yes I'm doing it partially for my wife whom I love with ALL my heart and being and also for myself as well. It would be a nice change, a very big chance but how is that sacrificing my life?

Have you ever been in love and/or wanted to try something different outside of the norm?

All I'm saying is that the US isn't going anywhere and opportunities like this come few and far between. Go see the world while you have a chance or you'll just regret it later in life. Is that so hard to understand?

Also: if you're going to make a blanket statement that the US is superior to AUS in all ways, you should back it up with fact/personal experience or it's nothing more than a xenophobic opinion....not a "pro" or "con".

Even though they have an insane amount of poisous animals that I've never even heard of for the most part, i think I'd try it just because it would be an interesting change. Even if you can't get a spectacular job, it isn't going to be forever, and if you can, then that's great. And besides, I think i someone posted an exchange rate of .56AU to $1US so it'd be one gigantic country full of hot deals for you, atleast in the beginning while you still had your US dollars. You'd be in Rossman paradise.

G'Day Ross.

Ross said:
I wouldn't be able to drive (bye bye 2002 Honda Accord SE) for at least 1-2 years until I got used to driving on the wrong side of the road.
Then he said:
It wouldn't necessarily be a permanent move, maybe for a few years but I think it'd be great.

Guess you won't be driving in Australia then, will you?

You will get all the cool cars you can't here like the 206, WRX STI(Rumored to be coming)

If it will take Ross 1-2 years to get used to driving on the other side of the road, I highly doubt that he'll want a car that would probably be tough for him to keep on the "correct" side of the road.

I'm just messing with you Ross. Go do it if you have the chance. I find it hard to believe that you're not financelly strapped to some desk though after getting in on all of those hot deals.

I am financially strapped for a long long time. Even if I did move down under in a few years I'd still be paying off my U.S. debt while living down under.

4 Years of Hot Deals will do that to ya

G'day RossMAN Bit of a late reply, but I haven't been on the net for nearly 2 months.

Interesting, amusing thread heehee For the unimformed, I'm an Aussie living in Australia. I've never been to the US. I've been to the UK and briefly to India and Singapore.

Time for a few facts Australia was voted the 2nd best place to live in the world, behind Switzerland I believe. The US was 6th.
In a survey of 130 of the worlds top cities, all 5 of Australias cities surveyed were in the top 8. My home city of Perth (which came 3rd) is reportedly one of the most technologically advanced cities on Earth.

The economy is growing strong at about 3%, despite current US and Japanese woes. We are the best sporting nation in the world Welcome to the land of Aussie Rules Football and Cricket We're the only country in the world to show swimming during prime time TV lol. Despite all of this, we are one of the fattest people in the world, those bastard Americans are still beating us at that

Health care is world class and cheap as chips compared to the US, as well as education.

Computer gear will set you back about 5-10% more than it does in the US, with the range not so vast, although it is there if you know where to look. Fuel is about the same price, as is pretty much everything else I presume.

Ok, we do have some nasty creepy crawlies, but it is very, very rare you hear about someone coming a cropper to one of them. I work on a vineyard 40 hours a week and I haven't seen a snake the whole time. Redback spiders (2nd most deadly in the world) are common but you'd have to go out of your way to get bitten by them. In suburbia, these nasties aren't common. Basically, if you don't bother them, they wont bother you.

The beaches are superb The heat is sometimes unbearable and the bushfires in the eastern states are devestating at the moment.
A lot of people say Sydney is too much of a rat race, everyone that has been there says so, but it is one of the 'cities of the world' as they say. Melbourne is the sporting capital of the world, it is also very artsy and cultural. I don't know too much about Brisbane, other than it's nickname is Brisvegas. I love Perth, it is laid-back and has clean air and beaches. And since moving down south to the Margaret River region, Perth feels like a rat-race now lol. Beer and wine here is fantastic

I'm travelling around Australia soon, so we might indeed get to catch up with each other RossMAN

Catchya!

I'm from New Zealand and have been to every English speaking country in the world. Although Canada was only brief.

If you are thinking of Brisbane, may I suggest the Gold Coast? Brisbane is actually slightly inland and can get very muggy and humid in the summer. It's can get very hot. The Gold Coast is an hour south of Brisbane, and is by the ocean so it gets sea breezes to cool it off. Plus it's a decent sized city of about 420k. A lot smaller than the 4.2 mill in Sydney, or the 1.7 mill in Brisbane, but it's big enough to have pretty much everything you need. Plus it has the best climate in Australia in my opinion. If you like colder winters, then I suggest Melbourne. Population wise it's nearly as big as Sydney, and many people consider it a more interesting and exciting city.

As for technology, Australia is just as advanced as America in 99% of cases. And in some cases it surpases it. No offence to you Americans, but I sometimes get the feeling that you think every country bar America is some quaint primitive backwater. But you are right in that broadband sucks in this part of the world, so prepare to pay a premium for it.

I'm thinking of moving to the Gold Coast myself. I'm sick of the rain in New Zealand. Plus us New Zealanders get automatic permanent residence minus some welfare which I don't need anyway.
