Hello,

On my desktop, when I try and boot, my system speaker makes a continous beeping sound, and also the keyboard doesn't seem to work. However, the keyboard does function properly (i'm using it right now on my laptop), so i'm not sure what the problem is.

It's an award bios. The CPU and Memory was displayed, and it even started to load the OS (I have lilo, and i need to press Enter before linux loads, so I can't see if it loads the OS fully)

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rob

I reset CMOS by taking out the battery and putting it back in, now the system stops at

CMOS checksum error - Defaults Loaded

You need to enter the bios and change the system settings to how you would like them. You should probably also reseat your memory and your video card.

i can't enter the bios, because my keyboard doesn't appear to be working.
It says 'F1 to continue', so I gather everything loaded fine.

I have tried re-seating the memory, still no work. I will give re-seating the video card a try, thanks.

Is it an usb keyboard? If so, you need to be using a ps2 to enter the bios and turn the usb ports on. If it is ps2, I would try another keyboard and see what happens.

*edit - to let you know, it's an ABIT KG7 mobo*

I plugged in a new, USB keyboard (the other was a PS/2), and everything
appears to be working fine, i can get into the BIOS, and it boots up. However, if i try and
use a bootdisk or boot into CD-ROM, the keyboard still does not work, however if i boot into the OS, it starts to work.

However, I adjusted a setting in the bios to report all errors, and when i try and
plug in a working PS/2 keyboard, an error saying a keyboard error, or no keyboard is plugged in appears.

So, I am assuming the PS/2 controller is messed? Is there any way to fix this? The PINS seem to all be in place.

Thanks
