Converting video

Is there a program I can use to convert a Blu Ray movie into another format that will fit on a single layer dvd ? I have AnyDVD HD already but it doesn't seem to have that feature.

Why start with a BR instead of an regular DVD? The picture quality isn't going to be much different compressing it that much. The encoding time saved is going to be quite large. There are a variety of ways to go about it but the most important question is what are you trying to do? Do you want to be able to play the DVD in a standard DVD player or is it just for transport purposes to play on another PC?

+1 (unless you don't have the movie on DVD).

It is sad to see someone start with such a high quality format and compress it the point it will fit on a single layer DVD. Not only is it sad, but as the poster above says, it is a waste of time. You'll spend a lot of extra time compressing the huge file, and the finished product will be visually no different than if you started with a standard (dual layer) DVD.

The OP doesn't say he wants to convert to DVD, he wants to fit it on a single layer DVD.

There are many 1 - 1.5h movies that can be re-compressed in x264 to fit on a single layer dvd in full 1080p. Animated movies compress exceptionally well. And the result are FAR superior than a dvd.

If the movie is more lengthy, or has very difficult scene to compress where the lower bitrate doesn't allow for 1080p, you can always downscale to 720p and still end up with a far better picture than a DVD.

Besides that, like everyone else said, the OP will soon discover this is not a practical due to the encoding times. Until we have a proper encoder that can use GPGPU...
