The Earthwatts line is solid.

TruePower Trio is questionable. Newer Trios come with fully sleeved cables. The auxiliary fan plug may be the root cause of many early deaths because the connector is not designed to deliver high current. Don't use the fan plug! I would also like to see higher fan speed around 150 watts load to keep the internal electronics cool.

Waiting for this thing to go FREE AR...watch for Fry's special. Already sitting on two Earthwatts 500, one TP Trio 430, and one TP Trio 550. Have one major complain with the TP Trio line...fan's rpm is too low at 150 watts load.

I'm not sure that this will happen. We're talking about Antec PSUs, not Ultras.

I think I may know the answer, but could I get by powering an overclocked E2140, 8600gt, 2gb of DDR2, and three drives on this?

No problem. My load is 150 watts with E4300 @ 3.49GHz (Orthos large). Add 20 watts for the 3rd HDD, and about 80 watts for the GPU.

This PSU will not power the 8800GT...the 8800GT needs 22A on the 12V rail The card detects the lower power, and clocks down

How can a GPU tell if the PSU can delivery 264 watts (22A) at the +12VDC rail? The card draws about 100 watts (confirmed by checking AC input current).

The Antec Earthwatts 380 is a single rail PSU rated for 324W @ +12VDC rail. It should easily drive one 8800GT, one HDD, one optical drive, one floppy drive, and an overclocked C2D CPU.

Pushing a quad north of 3.6GHz may require the PSU to run near the rated output.

Uh yeah, for you I would recommend a single rail PSU.

Sadly the price now seems to be $30ARFS on the EA380, cooling down this deal considerably.
