Cool down this HOT baby

I've got my 1,2GHz T-bird running now at 133x9. I have a superorb cooler for it, and I think I got the thermal grease applied correctly now. I got 4 other fans in the system, 1 for the GFX card, one for the chipset, and two for the Power Unit. It uses to be around 57 C, the most I've seen it to are 64 C with ASUS Probe. That was when I ran 3D Mark 2001 and some games. I also got it connected to ATA-100 now, which caused an explorer error on first startup but seems okay the rest of the time. I only got 2850 Marks in 3D Mark 2001, is that right for a 1,2GHz with 256 MB RAM and a GeForce 2 GTS ?

Anyway, the biggest reason of me writing this is that I need some quick cooling tips. If I order fans for my box it won't come here before in a week or so, I need something faster, should I buy a table fan ? Will making holes in the case and not having fans there help ? Help appreciated people

You probably want to add at least one fan to feed air into the case.

Also, the Super-Orb is almost at its "reasonable' temp limit(not socket-thermistor temp). You may want another heatsink if you plan on overclocking.

Hmm, I ordered 2 fans for the case, 1 for a 5.25" system bay, and some Arctic Silver thermal paste (which should be better?). But I won't get it for a week, that's the problem. Btw, when I want the thermal grease off to replace with the Artcic Silver one, do I have to clean the processor with isopropanol ? Sounds scary I reapplied the thermal grease yesterday, but the temp didn't approve, maybe I did it wrong another time. I layed a thin layer only. Wish I had an expert here to help with this new stuff

My 1.2GHz @ 1.33GHz idles at 34C.

I use the FOP38 - some says it too loud, but I can handle it and its the best in my opinion. My 1.2 GHz with Super Orb gets to 60C - so its obvious to me the Super Orb just sucks.

The easiest way to remove the paste is to go at it with q-tips and Nail Polish remover. Once you have the build up off, use Isopropyl Alcohol.

You may want to check your system configuration because those 3dmark 2001 scores are pretty low for a 1.2GHZ TBird. I'm scoring in the 3200s with a Duron 933 and Radeon, not to mention only 128Mb of RAM.

I had the Crome Orb on my CPU and it idled at around 53 C and now with a cheaper HSF thats AMD certified I run about 40C at idle... some fans just suck.. or dont blow.. or you know what I mean.

your 3dmark score is low - make sure your Via AGP driver is installed (assuming u have a via chipset, which u probably do)...in other words, make sure the 4-in-1 drivers are intalled...

that heatsink/fan simply sucks, though u should have at least one exhaust fan besides the PSU one...
I've noticed a exhaust behind the cpu makes a lot more difference than an intake in the front, so add at least one (8cm/9.2cm) fan for exhaust.

I have the VIA drivers installed. I might try to find some new ones or reinstall though. I'm using Detonator 11.02 I think for the GeForce 2 GTS. I wonder about some BIOS issues though. Should I turn on AGP FastWrite ? And should the CAS or what it's called on the RAM be 3T ?

Do you think I absolutely should change a fan ? I think maybe the fan is poor because it's gets so little air, it was one of the top contenders when it came to cooling over at Toms Hardware, the bad about it was bad design and too much sound. It was in the top 5 in cooling. Would a deskfan help until I get my 3 fans and new thermal paste ? I don't feel comfortable using fluids on my Processor, it's very safe or dangerous ?

I also managed to get the HDs running with the ATA-100 setup, don't know if there was any difference, I got new drivers for the Promise too. First time I started it up it crashed explorer, it could have been the CPU that was too warm too. I'm not sure. I don't like that it's idling at 57 C though, I don't know what it could rise to when I'm gaming.
