While I am not new to building my own machines, Ive never had much desire to overclock, but thanks to the conroe chips that are just way too easy to pump up the power (kind of like a turbocharged car...) Ive decided to take the plunge.
So Ive been researching like crazy, and just when I thought I had made a decsision on a Scythe Mine, I came across a review for the CM Hyper TX. Surprisingly it beat some of the bigger names like Ninja and I looked around for more reviews, and it continued to do well, and for under $30.
So I searched on a few of the overclocker forums and havent found a single mention of it. Is there something Im missing? Is it not actually a good overclocking HSF? Is the performance going to go down (relatively) when the vcore is raised like in a more aggressively OCed system?

Seems to me to be the next Arctic Freezer 7 Pro in terms of value ?

here are some of the reviews where it stands pretty tall next to some stiff competition.

feedback and opinions appreciated

You ask if this is a good over clocking heatsink....here are what other sites are saying about the Hyper TX...

Conclusion

Although at the time of the review release I couldn?t find any UK suppliers, the Hyper TX is going for $25 or around £15. For a cooler that is quiet and reasonably powerful, the Hyper TX is good enough for everyday computing, and a bit of overclocking if it takes your fancy.

Final Words

Having gotten used to heatpipes for air cooling, I had some concerns of how the Vortex TX would compare against those coolers. Overall, the Vortex TX had a strong showing and managed to more or less tie the Hyper 48 but it couldn't hold a candle against the Hyper 6. Keep in mind that the Hyper 6 is quite a bit bigger, and uses two fans at high settings for maximum performance.

As with many of Cooler Master's recent coolers, I found the installation process to be a little more involved than I'm normally used to. While this isn't something I can really point out as a fault (it is a universal heatsink after all), it is an annoyance. However, two areas that they should improve on are the documentation (needs bigger pictures) and the packaging so that the fins don't get bent.

The Vortex TX, while much quieter than the Hyper 6, is not a silent cooling solution, but it will not be much noisier than AMD's stock cooler. AMD performance is decent, whereas over at Intel it ties our best Intel air cooler, but the performance isn't anything to write home about.

Pros: Good performer, universal installation, decent AMD performance.

Cons: Some elbow work needed for installation. Poor documentation and packaging. Intel performance is average.

Bottom Line: If you're going to be overclocking the Pentium 4 Prescott, we do suggest you consider water or phase change. For AMD owners, the Vortex TX is a suitable cooler under most circumstances.

There is NO clear cut consensus as to how good the Hyper TX is...
yet it appears to hold its own among othr quality heatsinks...
Only time will tell!!

When you can get an AC Freezer 64 (or 7) for around $15., why pay more?

They AC Freezer 64 Pro is extremely similar is design to the Cooler Master Hyper TX. I'd like a review butting them head to head, they are too close to call...All a moot point because the Freezer is only $19...It has been on sale FOREVER, went down to $15 a few weeks ago.

I had one of these... cept it was DOA. I'd replace the DOA one, but I found out my Corsair XMS Pro ram wouldn't fit with it due to the plastic shroud. I might just get the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro. It's pretty much the same thing without the shroud.

Go for the AC Freezer 7. It's cheap and it will do a great job of cooling when you OC your rig.
