I Just built a computer amd 3200 64 bit retail, antec Sonata case, ati all in wonder 9800 pro, MSI K8N neo MB.

I am curious on a couple of things. What software do i use to check my cpu temp, case temp, and what is a to high of temp????

You can use Motherboard monitor, though it's no longer supported. It'll give you CPU temp and mb temp (sort of like case temp). As to what's too high for your CPU, look in your BIOS and see what the auto-shutdown temp threshold is. It should be around 60-70c. Your idle temp should be between 32-44c, though if your load temp goes into the mid 50's I'd suggest look for a better cooling solution. And remember, all temps are based on your ambient room temp AND your cooling solution.

i'm having a similar problem. AMD 3000+ 64-bit processor, antec sonata case, ati radeon 9800 pro, MSI K8N Neo motherboard.
My cpu temp is running between 61 and 66 Celcius.

Load or idle?

Bad news i found some software and here goes my cpu is 71c and the case is 49c and that is according to motherboard monitor 5. I used the standard heatsink and cooling fan that came with the cpu. But is it a good idea to pull of the old heatsink. Sand it down to where it is smooth, polish it up and use thermal grease and try that then buy a better cpu fan if that doesn't help???

Would that make a difference if to notice it???? or would it just be better to but another case fan and hook that up. And if i do how and where do you mount it in antec sonata case????

well updating my motherboard bios to version 1.3 kind of fixed my problem.
Now it displays a temperature of 44 idle instead of 61. Except it only fixes it on a reboot. If I just turn the computer on, it says 61 again. WEIRD!

Do note that the case temperature isn't really the case temp, its actually the nvidia chipset. The MSI passive heatsink on there is pretty crappy, and alot of times put on terrible. Ive seen pics of a glob of thermal paste covering about 1/3 of the chipset. I would reccommend investing in a chipset cooler....nothing even fancy. I bought mine from Compusa and it dropped my Nvidia chipset temps from like 42 to 33-34C.

For 8-10 bucks its worth the investment
