I know that current Celeron and Pentium III CPU have thermal diode for core temperature monitoring. But Asus is the only motherboard the supports overclock and thermal diode for the Intel CPU's. If you get an Abit or MSI, you cannot use the thermal diode because the manufacturer left out this feature to save cost. Most MB review does not bother to mention this most important feature for overclockers.
Can anyone verify the AMD Duron/Tbird also have thermal diode. Please, provide AMD site address to support it. If it does, are there any MB that supports the thermal diode?
When I read this thread, it is interesting to note that nobody mention how he measures the temperature that was quoted. And if the temperature is measured by an external thermister, what temperature offset (degrees added to the measurement to estimate CPU core temperature) was used. When the temperature sounded too good to be true, it usually is.
