I was wondering if a copper shim would be worth the money, I am getting a 1.13GHZ Tbird, a Taisol CGK742092 fan and Artic Silver 2. I wasn't planning on overclocking, but would like to keep it as cool as possible. Thanks.
If your primary purpose for getting a shim is to lower your temps, then no, it's not worth it. If it's for protecting your proc, then maybe
I'm using one, no noticeable improvements in temps. Btw, I got mine free. I wouldn't buy one myself.
I have found the copper shim (copper plate completely covering the heat sink) helps overclocking the low wattage Celeron 2 but does not help overclocking the higher wattage Duron.
Try a plastic spacer, or simply cut one from cardboard stock. You want to move heat away from the core (versus the ceramic) by discouraging flowback. AMD's processor cores become heat saturated rather easily.
get the new one if your going for it. BUT some of them help fry proc. if contact w/ bridges, some prevent hs having a good contact w/ core but all prevents breaking new proc. worth it? not for me
