isnt it just overclocked pc2700?

the comparisons ive seen show the samsung genuine ddr400 (pc3200) as being a good bit faster with its 4ns chips

my Corsair XMS3000 can run 400DDR cas2/3/3/6 easily.
its just a marketing thing - they probably dont overclock any higher then the previous sticks. (?)

nope ~ im very happy with my XMS3000

my system can only OC to 167fsb on decent voltage - so its not really holding me back there.
cas222 at my speed would be nice - but we arent yet sure if the boards (p4b) can actually run that fast and still remain stable.

besides its cheaper to buy a new CPU or Moboard these days than memory

I ordered a stick of the CMX512-3200C2 yesterday as well. I purchased a 1.6A several weeks ago but am just now ordering the memory/mobo (P4B533-V). It could just be a waste of money, and I'm not trying to get silly with the memory o'c. That being said, I'm aiming for around DDR400 CAS2 at 4:5, and thought I'd just blow the extra $50 or so to get memory that is "guaranteed" to run at that speed... we'll see how it pans out. And who knows, maybe the -V will get a 3:4 divider in the future and I can go crazy

Anyhow, all of the parts will be here on Friday but I have to go out of town this weekend, so I'll run some benchmarks next week and we'll see what happens.

Edit: Btw, that Samsung DDR400 seems kind of interesting. Rated at CAS3 (bleh) but some folks are saying that is deceptive. Anyhow, I'm buying the XMS 3200C2 so someone pony up for the Samsung and we'll run some tests

here is a link that shows the advantage of the 4ns modules on the samsung

even at equal clock speed, and the same memory timings the samsung is faster

the corsair in the article is the xms3000 not the xms3200 but it should still hold true if both the corsair use the same modules (which i belive they do, its overclocked pc2700)

not to mention the samsung at ddr400 speed can run cas2 and the most aggressive memory timings no problem

i was just using that review to show the advantage of the 4ns modules in the samsung ram

plus the reviewer never mentioned anything about trying to run the memory over ddr400... for all we know it could have gone a good bit higher still at the most aggressive memory settings

well...no matter what...we still dont' know what is under the heatspreader for the new corsair xms pc3200 c2...but it is rated cas2 at 400ddr...so if you don't get that...return it and get a new one...samsung's spec does not say cas2...not even 2.5...just 3...so you are not guarantee to run it at cas2...

we just dont take too much stock in web reviews

of course id rather have 4ns - but its not widely available yet.
the nice part ~ you can add your own heatspreaders
(yes they do work)

well what ever chips are under the heatspreader they have a very very slim chance of being anything other then overclocked pc2700 modules

searching corsairs web site this is the closest i could come to finding real info on what chips are used link according to the pdf it uses 6ns modules

Check out the Corsair Forums for answers to many of these questions regarding Corsair RAM. I have a 512MB stick of the XMS 3200 Rev. 2.1 (Winbond chips) running right now at 200 in an AT7 with the timings at CAS2 2-6-2-2T.

I've gotten my XMS3200 rev2.1 (cas 2.5) as high as fsb 217 stable at 2-6-3-3. At the most aggressive timings, I can get only fsb186, but that's still fairly respectable. I can't imagine the cas2 chip being THAT much better, considering I can already run cas 2 with my chip.....

For the price, I'd probably go for that Samsung true 3200 instead...probably will be cheaper in price and it's already running faster at more agressive timings than corsair, at least from the review I've seen. I wonder when Corsair will get hip to using that Samsung 4ns in their XMS line....

Anyone tried popping those heat spreaders off of the corsairs yet? I was thinking of doing that and redoing it with a better heatspreader that has an integrated fan and some as3. I'm kinda hesitant of messing with my memory stick tho, especially as i don't feel like having as3 short out what has become the most expensive part of my sys.

i suggest you leave that alone...once you get the as3 between the pins...you memory will be fried...
