I just got word that one of my acquaintances from another forum died the other day from covid. he does competition shooting and he likely contracted it at a match. He was also most likely unvaccinated.
a friend had called him up and was shocked at how bad he sounded, he ran over there to take him to the hospital but he was already gone when he got there.

Literally doctors staging a symbolic walkout due to overwhelmed hospitals, the shithead governor of Texas asking for emergency nurses to come to the state, literally a vet died not getting care for a non-Covid related illness due to no beds, a child getting airlifted 150 miles to a hospital due to lack of pediatric beds, and on and on and on, etc...

Here in Portugal, we'll begin to NOT have a mandate for masks outdoors, as it now becomes "a recommendation" instead.

Our Health Services Director stated several examples where one should still use masks, such as: when social distancing can't be observed, where there are many people close together, school playgrounds, etc ...

After learning of this, parents started contacting Health Services RIGHT AWAY in order to determine if their kids (below 10 years old) should still use masks in school (for them, masks will no longer be mandatory starting Monday) and they WANT to have their kids STILL using masks, for now, despite schools no longer having the mandate to enforce them.

It's the complete opposite of Florida ...

LOL 85%? I haven't looked at the projections in a while, but optimistically that would be an entire year??
We have a huge swath of the GQP electorate who will never get a COVID vaccine. That's not hesitancy or indifference, it's idiocy that you will never be able to crack through.

Honestly, I'm way past caring whether covidiots want to endanger their own communities or not. Yes, they are Americans too and I wish them no direct harm. Yes, innocent people such as children will be swept up by the madness. But on the bright side, the number of young children who get severe COVID is extremely low. That's no solace for the families that do experience it, but sitting here and wishing GQP voters come to their senses isn't rational either.

Experts are semi- divided on whether this summer wave will be the last one in the U.S. In all probability, there will be another surge over the winter holidays, but if we're lucky, it will be less extreme than last year's devastation. I'm not good enough to predict the end of the pandemic, but there is a growing consensus that a year from now, we'll be out of the woods because people will either have gotten vaccinated, or gotten natural immunity from infection (or both). If another 200k people die by then, that's apparently acceptable to us as a country. The thing is all the people who are most likely to contract SARS-CoV-2 have already decided that the pandemic is over. Restaurant reservations are back to pre-pandemic levels. College football games are packing stadiums with very little mask wearing.

The federal government is taking one last swing at boosting vaccination rates, but otherwise our nation has collectively decided that stamping out fires is our path forward. As responsible adults, we can sit here and lament how people aren't taking common sense actions to bend the curve but the reality is all that stuff ended around July 4th.

What gets me about this whole thing, is it's the state of emergency powers that gives him the authority to issue these mandates such as mask mandates, or in this case no mask mandate, yet he is doing the opposite of what that emergency power authority is for: to aid and protect the health of the people, and to resolve/end the emergency. if he isn't acting in the public's best interest health wise, and his actions are not to resolve/end the emergency, how can they be in a state of emergency, as his actions indicate there is no emergency? His no mask mandates is a direct abuse of his emergency powers, and in all reality not authorized act under the emergency powers declaration, which should make the no mask mandates unlawful. Why aren't any of these lawsuits attacking it from that angle? It's like the fire department, who you call, authorizing them to come to your house and put out a fire, showing up and setting the rest of your house/garage and the whole neighborhood on fire.

It's like these GOP governor's (FL and TX) are running their states like it's opposite day or something.

Sorry, missed that. Most advanced countries are vaccinating at a decent clip. Canada can hit 85% in a reasonable amount of time.
