CPU fan blows in or out?

Should the fan on the heatsink blow air onto the HS or off of it?

alphas suck air from the heatsink, all otheres blow onto the heatsink

Most fans blow down into the heatsink. It really depends on the manufacturer. Whichever way it was installed, I would keep it that way

My philosophy is if it has a shroud > Suck, no shroud > blow.

Really depends on what HS you are using. I just installed a Alpha PAL6035 on my machine. I had the fan blowing into the HS. I let it run for awhile and CPU temp climbed up to 53C according to ASUS Probe.

I then switched the fan around. It is now blowing out, away from the HS. My CPU temp has dropped down to 46C with SETI and Half Life running. I'm happy with it.

You mileage may vary.

Have fan blow AWAY from heatsink. If you put your hand on top of it, you should feel air blowing against it.

My Alpha came from reseller with the air blowing in, I reversed it and the processor temp hasn't changed much but my system temps are 4C lower. Not blowing hot air over the mobo anymore.
