My dad worked for IBM, we had the first PC, when IBM had B+M storefronts. My first build was the Celeron 300 no cache, got near 500mhz with that. Then paid a 100 dollars to get a 300A, did the same thing.
I got some mileage out of a great Abit board back then.
Sad to see them 'die'.

EDIT : sort of OT
I know its not on topic besides the fact it has over 28,000 cpu's, where is I.B.M Watson being discussed ? Thought the whole concept playing on Jeopardy was VERY COOL. And its NOT hooked to the Internet !

Recently started to OC:

Athlon II X3 435 - 2.9GHz to 3.48GHx = 20%
Phenom II X4 955 BE - 3.2GHz to 3.6 GHz = 12.5%

I know I could push a lot more those OC but I don't want to play with voltages and I want to keep on air cooled for now...

i would get ban'd by mark if i started listing out all the cpu's i oc'd.

The list would get so incredibly long, all of you guys would think you were reading programing language with all the stepping numbers.

You shall hereafter be known as the "Wilt Chamberlain of the OC'ing community".

I hope you use protection when you handle virgin processors in the future, being a man of such experience by now. Whispering sweet nothings into your case fans before you really bust out the toys and gear that will, before the OC'ing session is over, see that young processor become an experienced, if not somewhat defiled and humiliated, OC'ing demon.

Then who is his Bill Russell?

Or is he the Dirk Diggler of OCing?

I started late with OCing so I'm a stripling.

PIII-650 to 750MHz
Athlon-64 3500+ to 2.6 GHz
Athlon X2 3800+ 1.8 GHz to 2.5 GHz (still in service)
Athlon-64 X2 4800+ to... stock (in a Shuttle case, which hates OCing, still in service)
Intel E6750 to 3.7 GHz stable

Plus the two in my sig. That's it.

Not just Steam games, but games I've collected for about 20 years. 54 of them are on Steam, but even most of those I still own the DVD/CD.

Up to 756 total installed since this screenshot was taken.

LOL yeah adam i remember back when u had 400 and someone called shins on ya.

Then you busted that screen shot and everyone just went OMGWTFBBQ!

If you were to reinstall all your games one at a time, i wonder if you would still be reinstalling during the tock phase in a cpu if you started on the tick phase.

Meaning if u had a 965 and u started installing, would u finish b4 the 975's came out?

E6600 B2 - 3.2GHz - 33%
Q9650 E0 - 4.0GHz - 33%

Short list. Every computer prior to that were vendors and couldn't be overclocked.

Intel Celeron 300A & Abit BH6 @450 Hz...
...followed by a bunch of OC's that only pale in comparison to the legendary 300A.

Currently with Intel i5 750 @3.67 GHz, stock voltage (system rigged for silent running).

Overclocked a Cyrix 233 CPU many years ago. It loaded to the Win95 desktop and then rebooted. I only did it because I was upgrading to a K6-2 500 at the time.

Thus ended my CPU overclocking career.

Done alot, Can only keep the memorable ones in mind (Gallon of knowledge in a shotglass of a brain)

C=64 1Mhz oc to 1.1Mhz
C=128 2Mhz oc to 2.2Mhz (It was set up to boost/turbo on a certain system rom commands to)
Various AMD 386/486 crystal fun and where I learned how much more you can do with a big chunk of metal and a fan on top.
The weeks before the P60 I oc'd a DX50 LB system to a DX66,, It was awsome but kept burning up the localbus GFX and SCSI cards left and right, The CPU gave up the ghost 1 month later.
Various Amiga's, First was a A500 7mhz up to a 14Mhz, My desktop 2000 was up to a 060 50Mhz before I dumped it.

A P200mmx Not so much an OC but did have it runnin a 100mhz FSB with PC100 memory.

Ive done more, Just nothing worth noting.

overclocked many systems in the past..

Ones that I won't forget.... 1Ghz P3 copper at 1.45Ghz with air cooling and voltage tweaks was awesome. FSB was around 145'ish on a Abit BE6-2, the famous 440BX momboard. These used to kick similarly clocked (or higher) Thunderbird AMD systems in the butt. I enjoyed having fun teasing those thunderbird users.

1Ghz AMD Duron at 200 FSB, forgot what cpu clock I got it up to. That 200FSB was awesome.... man those Muskin DDR ram and Duron chip did their job.

I want to go back to the Pentium 3 days... loved those chips.
