I was planning to buy a 3200 Venice, probably still will. But for under $200, what is the best option? I spend many more hours doing video encoding than gaming, but I also do some music mixing and various engineering application. Should I wait for a pentium dual core?

pentium dual cores are just 2 single cores stuck together, while the a64 dual core is actually redesigned and improved.. just for the fact that intel was lazy and just stuck 2 together would cause me to choose an amd dual core. even if the pentiums were 10% faster in everything i would choose the amd because i certainly dont want to support a lazy attempt at improving a product in such a fast-moving market.

If you can wait, wait for A dual core, then get the one that fits your budget and needs. Don't let anyone influence you one way or another. It's your money and time. YOU make the choice.

good luck

As much as I love AMD, Intel has the price advantage. AMDs dual cores will be priced above the 4000+ which is way over my price point. Intel has one in the mid-$200 which I could stretch for.
