Just replaced a crappy 450mhz p3 with a slightly less crappy 600mhz p3. In both bios and windows its showing up as 450mhz still. Bios wont let me change the cpu speed and doesnt have any fsb settings. Anyone have an idea whats wrong and what i can do? The mobo is a asus p3b-f i think. Thanks.

not familiar w/ that mobo, but is there a jumper on the board to change the FSB from 100 to 133? Or, perhaps that board only does 100fsb, in which case you have a nice cool running 450.

more details.... what motherboard??? has the BIOS been updated???

best thing to do would be go to the asus site and search for that mobo and look under the FAQ's if its a common problem w/ p3's that should help otherwise the fsb for mobo might be to low

Bios should have FSB settings:

In order to make use of the JumperFree option, all DIP switches on the motherboard MUST be set to OFF in order to override manual configuration and have total control from the BIOS menu. The clock multiplier can be set from 2.0x to 8.0x in increments of 0.5x and the FSB speed option lets you select from a good number of frequencies ranging from 66MHz all the way up to 150MHz
