CPU temps with 3000+ winchester

I'm new at overclocking, but I've been messing with my Neo2 Platinum and 3000+ 939 for a while now. It will run fine at 2.6 in windows, but it won't run prime95 for very long with mem and HTT way down. Even at 240x9, my temps during prime95 are about 60C. It ran prime95 fine at 245x9 (stock cpu voltage, reading 1.37 in sandra) with no errors, but it was getting up to 70C from low 30's at idle!!! I'm using retail HSF w/ arctic silver 5. I'm looking at my temps in sandra and mbm5, and they are about the same in both. The temp in the bios never goes above low 40's so I figure just ignore this? Right now my board is sitting outside of my case in open air on a cardboard box.

These temps sound high from what I've read. Are they? Do I just have a crappy 3000+, or should I get a bigger HSF and go for more? Will my as5 take a while to set up and bring my temps down after a few days? What should I do?

as5 usually takes about a week to set in. Instructions ive read say to even shut your computer down everynight for the as5 to "cool off". some dont though. other then that check the power supply. Heard ppl having probs with antec and Msi.

Thanks. I'll be patient with my temps for a while I guess. My antec 350W psu is almost 5 years old, so I doubt it is one that has specific problems with this board. However, is it possible that a weak psu could somehow cause higher temps orcause prime95 to fail even with low temps? I'm trying to get a grasp on this.

Right now it's been going for a few hours at 270x9 in prime95 no errors, but my temps are at 65C max in sandra and mbm5. Is that too hot?

I reapplied my AS5, and after about a day my temps are coming down and I've been paying more attention to the voltage and setting it manually instead of "startup". Now, I'm passing prime95 for several hours at both 300x8 and 270x9, and my temps aren't going above 53c!! My voltages are at 1.4 +no vid in the bios, which reads 1.344-1.376 in cpuz and 1.36-1.39 in sandra. Some 12hr and 24hr p95 tests are next, and some 3dmark loops.

Anybody else having luck at 2.4 which 1.36 vcore? It seems low to me, but it's stable.

AS5 may take a few days to set in, but you wont look fixing them much more then 2-3c....

Yeah... Idling at 32C right now at 280x9 w/ 1.45vcore in bios, cpu-z reads 1.39-1.424. Tested 12 hrs prime95 twice and looped 3dmark for about 5 hours. Max temp running prime95 is 52C. Reapplying the AS5 must have helped; the first time I smeared it all around the core. I read the instructions and put a little dab in the center, and after about 24hrs they came way down.

For some reason, my x133 divider won't work, but the rest of them do. Interesting.

What is way down...we are talking idle way down, not load right??? I have never seen in my own experience with AS5 it dropping more then 2-3c after like 2-3 days....And that 2-3 days it helped if you toasted the chip up to set it better....

I'm not sure about your RAM, but most of the errors can be attributed to the DDR. Some OCZ will get you stable (TCCD).
Also, the .09's like 1.425 volts too, not sure why this is, but I am at 10x270 super pi error free using OCZ rev 2. idel 38-39C.
I also have cool and quiet disabled as well as CPU throttling disabled.

Also HT=3X anything above 250 with a 10 multiplier, but since your a 3000, this case would be...anything 9x273.

Thanks for responding, Duvie. The big drop in temps I experienced was from reapplying the AS5, not from the drop over time. I incorrectly applied it the first time by spreading it around the core. Sorry for being unclear. Regulating my voltages has also helped me realize why my temps were so high.

The problem I'm having right now is that my voltages are different every time I boot! If anything, it applies more voltage then I like (accounting for the undervolting of the board). I did a my stability tests at when cpu-z read about 1.41. on average (1.45v setting in bios, +0%), but then I reboot and my voltage reads higher and my temps go a little higher as a result. When I got into the bios, it is still set at 1.45 where I want it! Any ideas or common issues?
