Wow, getting a bit personal in your attack there. Yes, Intel is faster, but for a price, and certainly NOT the "same money" as you say. When you are talking nearly double the price ($110 more for the CPU, and an average of $50 more for an equivalent mobo) for "40% more speed" thats not always a good choice. Especially if the cheaper solution will run everything the faster one will (as of today).
Because despite what you say, a properly clocked quad Phenom II will run every game that is out today. It may only get 70fps to the Intel's 100fps, but there is very little difference in gameplay once you go over 60. Especially if you run vsync to prevent tearing.
But hey, thanks for calling everybody brainless. Especially those that are trying to stay within a limited budget that Intel clearly falls outside of.
The OP talked of getting an Asus sabretooth mobo, it costs £177 in the UK and combined with a thuban CPU for £135 in the UK it works out the Same price as 2500K and mobo.
That is the essence of my reasoning. However it seems BF3 DOES take advantage of 6 core Thuban and that is a rational reason for going with it-more games will probably use those extra cores in future. The reason for my ire is people recommending what they have and suggesting there is anything sensible about spending £177 on a mobo for a grossly inferior cpu. But your dive bombing is fair if 6 core's are supported in future games then it could be the way to go WITHOUT the sabretooth 990. I say again in the UK the prices between these systems are about the same. A phenom 2 falls flat on its face in the games I mentioned and can't produce acceptable frame rates never mind 70fps. I'm not talking about console ports I'm referring to PC games as in games you need a PC to run cos a console doesn't have the power and there will be many more of those coming along if the current generation of consoles are here for another few years.
Also try reading what I linked to as a gamer who tried both and owns a phenom 2 said there was a big difference in his experience. That's what I mean by brainless-not looking at the evidence, just having an opinion.
