crashed hard drive help!

Well it turns out my ipod made my head crash on my harddrive... i was updating it with itunes and my puter froze completely so i had to do a hard reboot and my drive started clicking..

I take it out and put it in another puter to run recovery programs and it finds stuff but every now and then i hear a click... is there anything i can do? The recovery program has a hard time getting the files off.. the program freezes after a file or two.

Is there anything i can do to the harddrive to give it a little life? Can i put it in the freezer? is there another recovery program out there that is better?

Sure it did because the Ipod corrupted his computer and I bet it displayed a message stating along the lines of he must now buy a Mac ^_^ LoL

ok im so trying the freezer thing.. one quick question tho.. ive read all those links but everyone says a "plastic bag" is good but not a zip lock bag as it conducts static.

What should i put my harddrive in before i put it in the freezer? What kinda seal should i use.. should i put it in an external usb drive after to get data off?

A zip lock bag is the preferred method. There's no carpet in a freezer so the likelihood of the drive being subjected to static is fairly minimal. This is an over-simplification, of course.

Use two ziplock bags. You do not want any moisture on the drive freezing.

ok update.

I tried the freezer thing and i get the same problems... now i know theres still a chance because when i run the data recovery program it finds files it just can't recover them.. the program freezes. I tried access the drive through windows and it says drive E: is not accessable and when i scan the file system it doesn't come up with one. I still hear clicking when it first turns on but the clicking stops after that. One thing that scared me is a program told me that the drive had 100% space free. Another program told me the drive was only 3 mb big... so im getting mixed signals from a bunch of programs.

What should i try next? I need a way to pull files off and it seems only one recovery program will find the files but has a hard time recovering them.

I only put it in the freezer for 2 hours or so... im gonna try longer next time.

If it still clicks after the freezer trick, you're out of luck. You'll need to send it to a data recovery firm, and get an estimate. That should run to something like $80, but the actual repair work will be a LOT.
I take it you don't have backups?
