Hi,
I just bought a new system, with a single 7800GT in it. When i start up the pc after it has been off overnight (with no power to it at all) the GFX fan starts spinning like its just had an injection of adreniline, it makes such a noise that im half worried its damaging itself. Anyway, this crazy reving continues till i reach the login screen, then the fan instantly quietens down. Another thing is, even when my pc is idle, you can hear the fan reving up every now and then for a bit, then going back to normal. It revs up before i play games, but i guess this is what its supposed to do.
Secondly, it seems to me that the ide temps are pretty high for my card. When the system has been on for a while, it idles at about 45-46c, when playing games it hits from about 57-65c depending on how demanding the game is - all this is on stock clock speeds. I'm not so hot (pardon the pun) on GPU temps, but it seems to me 45c idle and 60ish full load is a bit excessive. The strange thing is, when i OC the mofo, the temp doesnt even rise that much past 65.
My system has 3 air intakes at the front (its an Antec p160e case) but no intake fan, it has a 120mm exhaust fan, the room is generally pretty average in terms of temp.
if its of any use, system is
Asus A8N-SLI
AMD x2 4400+
Gigabyte 7800Gt
2 gig o ddr500 kingmax ram
250gig WDC SATA II
stock fans on everything.
Can anyone please
a) tell me if these idle/load temps are normal
b) tell me if the erratic reving is normal
c)tell me if getting an intake fan will really make much of a difference
d) recomend any good 7800GT fans if i cud do with a better one
Any help is greatly appreciated.
