crazy hard drive problem...

ok I just came upon an Abit TH7-II and I moved all my components, from a shuttle AV40(based on the P4X266 chipset). I have 4 harddrives that were moved from machine to machine. 2 of which are 60GB maxtors, purchased at the same time, so they show up in windows as 2 devices with the same name. I cant see the drives in windows, because windows wont start the device, becasuse I duplicate device exists on the system. On the shuttle mainboard, I was able to install the latest VIA 4-in-1's and get the problem taken care of, unfortunatly that is no longer an option, Is there a simple fix for this? BTW, I'm running winXP. Thanxx in advance for the help.

did you try clean format/reinstall? when you set up the new rig did you just plug all of the hdd's in first? did you try just booting with 1 and setting everything up that way? also what are the rest of your specs? maybe more info will help.

Does the old LABEL command work in xp? Worth a shot.

also what does the label command do?, and how can I use it?

yes Ive also tried putting in one drive, and reformatting it, and reainstalling windows, but the 60's wont start, although they are recognized in the disk management app. but show up with a yellow exclimation point under the device manager. also the 60's have been formatted using NTFS, and both have really valuable data on them, that I'd hate to lose to having to reformat them too.(mostly mp3's )
