Creating a volume with Win2k

I'm trying to create a volume that spans a 40gig and a 20 gig drive. One is 5400 RPM, the other is 7200

Is this possible, and if so, does anyone know where I can get more information regarding this issue???

If you ment managing HD and partitions....
Goto Control Panel, select Administrative tools and then Computer Management.
Select the Storage tab and click on Disk Management.
To modify patitions right click in the right window where you see your drives.

This must be one of the 'deepest' multichoise selections ever.
Hope it's what you need.

Not really... right click on My Computers and choose Manage. That'll take you to Computer Management.

And as to the question at hand, I have no idea but it would be interesting if it can be done.

In order to use spanned volumes in Windows 2000, you are going to need to use Dynamic Disks. So if you are already using a Basic Disk, you can convert up, but once you do that you cannot convert back without deleting the partition.

Once its Dynamic its just a matter of using Disk Management to create the spanned volumes.

Thanks Marqui, I'll be sure to give it a try... I'm formatting both drives right now, so I'll have to wait until thats done.

I'll post here if/how I did it when I'm done... that is, unless I have to take this stupid 40gig drive back to Future Shop

And you can't boot off a dynamic disk and you will lose all data if one of the drives fail.

Alright then, better question:

Is there a way to map a physical drive to a folder on another drive???

I'm running an FTP, and want to map my 17 gig drive to a folder on my 40 gig drive to allow for uploads. I can do it using shortcuts, but haven't found a way to do it any other way, and I know most FTP programs won't display shortcuts when doing directory listings. I've done this with Netware before, no clue how to do it with Win2k though...
