Hi,

This is my 1st post here. I am planning to build a Desktop PC since my Intel 810i motherboard which has worked for almost 10 yrs now, seems to be giving problems. Right now, i want to build the fastest and long lasting PC!

I dont mind the cost, as you can guess that i want it to last long. The only things that come to my mind is that if not, it should be upgradeable and should have the best of features (like the new ports and support for PS/2 ports etc). Since i already have a Samsung 17" monitor (may upgrade later, not right now), a Samsung CDWriter, Logitech Keyboard & Mouse, I just need to concentrate on the following (with their latest prices in Rupees):

1] Best Processor (preferably the latest with the least heat dissipation & vcore & Stock voltages) - Rs. ?
2] Best Mobo compatible with Processor - Rs. ?
3] Best DDR2 RAM 1600/1333/1066 Mhz etc - Rs. ?
4] Best HDD (Seagate Barracuda 10,000/7200 rpm) - Rs. ?
5] Best Cooling System compatible with Processor & Mobo - Rs. ?
6] Best Cabinet with Best SMPS ( > 600/700W) compatible with Processor & Mobo - Rs. ?
7] Best Graphics card compatible with the above configuration - Rs ?
8] Best Sound card compatible with the above configuration - Rs ?
9] Best Thermal Paste - Rs ?

Also, if someone can tell me the Name and Price of the Best Mobo to go alongwith the Intel E8600 processor would really appreciate it. I have scoured a lot of webpages and found that its a very good processor which can be easily overclocked above 4Ghz while keeping its temps stable. But i havent been able to come to any conclusion on the right motherboard and RAM for it due to conflicting reviews.

If someone can help me with this based on their experience and benchmark reviews, would most appreciate it. Please let me know if i am missing anything else.

Have you read the stickies up at the top of this section of the forums? People will be more willing to help you once you've read it and understand all the info you need to provide us with.

One thing you should keep in mind is that fastest does not mean it will be the longest lasting! You could pay over 5000$ for a pc that might only be 50% faster than a PC that cost 1500$. If you want longevity I would suggest that you budget for a decent mainstream PC now (1000-2000 depending on what you need) and plan to upgrade again later.

again, this is assuming that you still want to stick with the high end. You can still build a good PC for under 1000$

I've used it two times so far.
If they want Master Blaster rigs, there it is!

That extreme edition should be a 940 instead, and then you can use the extra cash to go with GTX280s.

$3750 US 182k INR

Thats in the right direction but still not top of the line

Replace the 260's with 285's
Replace the X25-E 32gb with the X25-E 64bg
Replace the PC P&C 750 with the 1200watt model

that will add another $1000 US

Go to triple SLI, upgrade the case, capture card and sound and you can push it well over $5000-6000 US 243-292K INR

Only 285's??? That's weak. SLI 295's

He says he's using a 17" monitor. I'd go for the faster CPU then.

Hello sifar786, and welcome to the forums.

what is the power consumption and Price list for your given config?

If you want the fastest, then power consumption and price shouldn't be a concern. When buying a Ferrari, do you ask about gas mileage and price?

If power consumption and price ARE a concern, then you aren't going to create the fastest desktop PC.

You shouldn't be looking at an E8600 at all.
 It's based on a dead socket platform and isn't anywhere near... "the Fastest Desktop PC" processor, that will be "long lasting"
You'd better stick with the Core i7 965 Extreme CPU.

I am asking this info on behalf of my friend who has already bought an Intel E8600 and wants to get a nice mobo which is good and can also be overclocked to above 4GHz. He is (like me) into software development & database (ROLAP) querying requires a lot of processing power.

Thnx

Your friend wants a 4GHz+ OC out of a Q6600?
What stepping is his Q6600 and what type of cooling does he plan on using?

BTW, If he doesn't mind the cost, as you stated...
Why NOT simply sell his Q6600 and buy one of the better 45nm quad core processors?

No, he already has an E8600 and not a Q6600, (though i had recommended him E6600). And i think the E8600 comes with a E0 stepping.
I dont think he would be able to sell the E8600 because of budget restrictions...

First it's "I dont mind the cost...", then it's "because of budget restrictions..."?
What are you really wanting here?

Soundmanred,

You should read the posts.... i meant a High end PC config for myself and since my friend asked me to find out a good mobo for his E8600, i requested the same here..is that too difficult to understand?

And did i say i was rich? is it that only the rich are entitled to buy a high-end PC? I am working just like u or any other working professional who saves some amount for his personal expenses.

I am glad that there are ppl who, instead of spending time in making fun of others, really take time to pen their valuable knowledge here...
