Critique my Resume

My company fell $50 mil short in third quarter earnings precipitating a round of layoffs. I am lucky enough that I get to keep my job through Dec. 31 in order to finish my current projects

I havn't interviewed or seriously job hunted for 3 years, so please critique my resume. All feedback is appreciated.

Resume

I removed my objectives section because I couldn't believe I had written that much BS, and I don't really think it's necessary when you send a cover letter. Is my resume ok without it, or should I add it back in?

Thanks for your help.

First, dude - Remove your personal details when you put in on the web!

Second, the layout could be improved. Also, it needs to be filled out a lot more.

Edit: If the document is printed out (very likely) those html links won't work (obviously). I'd definitely type the address in brackets next to the project name etc

Keep the objectives out. I hear that is on its way out the door on professional resumes. And on the second page eliminate the "I" where you have it in stuff like "I graduated..." The more concise the better.

Most places want a 1 page resume. I would try to get it down to that. Some areas that can help - cut the indents by about 25%. Try to combine more information into a single line. Also, if you state that your college education ended in 2003 with a BS and a BA it can be assumed you graduated in 2003 - remove the line that says that.

It doesn't say how long your were at UNI production house

Some places consider it bad practice to say that your 'references are available upon request' since that is an assumed and redundant to state - It had been recommended to me that you never put that on there but I don't know how prevalent that it.

Just remembered: In certain professions (i.e. mine) they also may like to know your professional goals - masters degree, getting your professional license etc. I am not as familiar with IT resume preferences

The table formatting never works, it just takes up too much space. i will see if i can post my resume somewhere. formatting is very important. it should never be more than a page. use times new roman, have consistent font. try to use buzz words and action verbs.

I would stretch your name across the top in a 14 or 16pt font, there's really nothing to catch your eye. Capitalize P in 2003-Present, put Intermec before the date (switch all going down), capitalize Intern (or remove that part preferably). Why is the B in business capitalized? No period at the end of that line. Tested and implemented solutions with an s (since I assume you test prior to implementation). Reword the 'trained end users on use of application'...too many uses. Validate applications with an S. Reword the 'fixed and supported' line...I dunno something like 'Performed troubleshooting and support of production applications'. Assisted with creation of the UNI Chem site. HTML not html. Achieved a 3.0 GPA, remove the graduated line it's assumed based on lines above that. Remove the references section....if you don't have any other bullet points to put under other I would remove the Eagle Scout thing...try to get at least 3.

As previously stated, get it down to 1 page. You don't have enough to fill out two and you're barely hitting a 2nd. Spread it out. Get rid of the standard MS Word resume template font but keep it simple.

You owe me $ for all that.

Experience

Be constant either bold all the job titles or none of the job titles.
Remove the reference to "(intern July Dec. 2003)"

You need to punch up this section. Use the (S) situation, (A) action, and (R) results approach.

Skills

I would put your skill near the top of the resume. I would remove years of experience and when you used it. This is how this section looks on my resume.

Languages: Actuate, T-SQL, PL/SQL (Oracle), BIRT, Jasper Reports, Java, XML
Software: Visual SourceSafe, IDEA, Eclipse, Word, Excel, Power Point
Hardware: PC, IBM AIX, HP 9000
Operating Environments: Windows, Unix, Tomcat

Education

- You obtained a B.S. in CS and a B.A in Mathematics?
- Remove when you graduated and the reference to the course.
- Rewrite "I have earned above a 3.0 GPA". State exactly what you got, "Obtained GPA of 3.#" or "Graduated with GPA of 3.#".

References

Remove section. This is a given.

Other

Remove "I am an Eagle Scout". Employers don't care about items like this.

I went for an on-site interview at Intermec 6 weeks ago and never got a response back after asking for one. Now I know why.

well, it's all about how you want to position yourself. do you think your current work experience will be attractive to potential employers? if so, put that on top. if not, i would actually go with your education credentials and relevant courses on top (depending on when you got out of school).
