Hi all, I'm currently using 790GX board, which only support 8x crossfire...

Is it good enough to crossfire 4770 on this board??
I mean is there any significant difference between 16x crossfire and 8x crossfire??
I'm using 1680*1050 resolution..

Thanks for any quick replies, extra thanks granted to the one posted with link...

Last I heard, nothing but the extreme fastest cards needed the full 16x bandwidth (think GTX295, 4870x2), and the midrange/hig end cards wouldn't be bottlenecked but very little if at all by the 8x socket

www.alienbabeltech.com did a review on that. In fact, Apopping himself wrote it. I don't think that 8x slots will be that huge of a deal. Will it hinder? Yes, a bit, but you will still see some great performance.

This is actually a good point. Something I should have thought of. Keep in mind that crossfire and sli do have draw-backs, and you will from time to time run into driver issues which it will fail to scale at all, thus giving you a single 4770. Essentially the questions is this: Do you want a 50% increase that works in every single game across the board? Or... Do you want an 80% (instead of 50%) increase in some games, and 0% (instead of 50%) in other games? Not to mention other issues that 'some' people have reported such as micro-stutter.

By the way, this is not to deter you from going Xfire. I just want to make sure you understand some of the pros and cons, which you may already in fact know.

So, is it good for me to get single 4770 now and add 4770 in next month, or get a single 4870 now?
Oh ya, currently I'm using 650Watt

Both options would be fine and your PSU is more than powerful enough. Only you can make this decision. Check the prices out, compare the performance and make the best educated guess that you can.

Any suggestion now??

Well, I can tell you what *I* would do. I would get the 4870 or 4890 for a Hot Deal. You have to watch slickdeals.net, or hot deals forum here on AT and check about 3 times a day. Usually, every day or so there is a really good video card deal.

Most of the 4770's seem to be around $110 - $120 + Shipping. If you can find a 4870 for under $150 and a 4890 for under $175, I'd go for them as they will be a bit faster.

Yeah, it's true, but I live in Indonesia..
4870 is approximately $190 to $260
4890 is approximately $260 and up to that
while 4770 is about $130

So, which one will worth the most?

Wow, shame on me for always assuming that people live in the states.

Based on what you have provided, I would say buy a 4770 now, and get another one when you actually need the performance increase. If you don't need the performance increase, hold off as long as you can (while still enjoying games) and you might find that it could be more viable to sell your 4770 and get a 5XXX Series from ATi, or an nVidia card to replace it with. As technology advances, it is very probable that in a year we will have a single mid range card from ATi or nVidia that outperforms a 4770 Xfire setup.
