Parts:
Powercolor 7870
Saphire 7850
GA-Z77X-UD5H

Story:
I have a power color 7870 and a sapphire 7850.
The power color was just purchased on a newegg deal.
Both cards work perfectly fine.

For the life of me i can not get crossfire to enable.
A crossfire Bridge is in use.
Both cards are detected and working.

I have tried:
7870 first slot, 7850 second slot, and the reversed.
I have tried uninstalling drivers, then re-installing.
I have switched to different drivers. Starting from 13.0 through the current beta of 13.11.

Both cards are working in the system. I can even have both cards connected to separate monitors, with a active displays.
But Crossfire will not enable.

Thoughts?

Crossfire can be a bit tricky to enable. In the past, I have installed the latest drivers with only one card installed, and then reinstalled the drivers with a second card installed.

So, it's these steps:
(1) start up computer with only one card installed.
(2) Install latest drivers
(3) restart, confirm new drivers are installed.
(4) shutdown
(5) install second card without crossfire bridge.
(6) restart
(7) reinstall the same drivers without uninstalling them.
(8) restart
(9) confirm second card is detected
(10) shutdown
(11) install bridge
(12) restart
(13) attempt to enable crossfire in Catalyst Control Center.

Try that and report back. I've run 7870/7850 Crossfire and 7870/7870 Crossfire without issues, once it's set up.

Make sure you have power to the sata connector located next to your sata ports on your motherboard.

Also, try another bridge if you have one laying around.

In progress. thank you.

What I tried:

uninstall drivers.
shutdown
start up computer with only 7870 installed
Installed latest drivers
restart, confirm new drivers are installed, though device manager
shutdown
install 7850 without crossfire bridge.
reinstalled drivers 13.9 without uninstalling them.
restart
confirm second card is detected
shutdown
install bridge
restart
attempt to enable crossfire in Catalyst Control Center.
pulled birdge out a little on each card
restart

Switched cards. Did the same above with the 7850 first. Still no crossfire.

If i plugin my second monitor to the bottom card, it will switch from disabled to enabled.

Wow, sorry that didn't work. Clearly, Crossfire isn't even showing up as an option in Catalyst. It would appear right under AMD OverDrive in the Performance category.

It actually could be that the bridge is faulty. When I've had problems, the Crossfire tab was available, I just couldn't switch it from disabled to enabled. You don't even have that option here.

Perhaps other folks will have more ideas.

My motherboard is not that different from yours and getting the PC to recognize CFX was plug and play. I am thinking your issue is with the bridge. How old is it? Did it come with one of the cards? Your new card should have come with a new bridge? You also only need one and it needs to be connected to the first crossfire lead - the one closest to the back of the case.

You should have two bridges. Each card would have come with one.

Is the 7870 the Myst (tahiti) edition? If it is, it can only crossfire with another Myst or a 7950 right?

Like Face2Face mine was P&P, I just put the second card in, bridge on, power cable to the cards, boot up, enabled CF in CCC and that was it.

So if I am reading that right your friends CF cards that worked fine in his system will not work in yours so something with your system is the problem if the above is correct

I'll just throw some quick things out there fwiw.

If you didn't try yet set BIOS settings to default.
Try it with one monitor connected to the card in the PCIE x16 slot per UDH5 manual per CF install.
Make sure you have a good PS.
I think its almost time to try a fresh OS install imo.

Quick Google search saw this below check the first post and the second to the last fwiw.

our problems are very different. mine detects both video cards, and i can use them. CF just will not enable.

Which drivers are you installing? Go with the 13.9s first

yes. only using 13.9

my psu is the OCZ Fatal1ty 750W. its more then enough.

I assume you used his crossfire bridge?

Sadly no. didn't even think about it. Just ordered two more off of ebay, that said they were pulled from 7800 series cards. We will see.

Do both PCI-E lanes work? Try taking out the main GPU, see if it works in the first slot, if it does try it in the second slot, if it doesn't work you have a buggered PCI-E slot.

It actually appears under gaming.

I had to install the drivers a second time after installing the second card in mine. Both cards where active and showing, but CCC was not showing the CF option initially.

Just to clarify with you, you only need one bridge, not two. I hope the new bridge fixes your issue.
