Sounds like a dangerous combo of poor event planning, selfishness and celebrity worship. Good on the performer for repeatedly stopping the show and trying to help people. May the fuck be on all of those who pushed ahead despite the screams just so they could see the stage better.

It's remarkable how dangerous large groups of people can be to themselves, makes me think to what just happened in Israel, where those pilgrims had a stampede and like 40 people were crushed to death. Such a senseless waste.

Promoters never learn, going back to 1979 when 11 were killed at a Who concert with "festival" seating it's happened several times since, you can get more bodies and more $$ without assigned seats at the risk of trampling,under certain conditions humans are worse than cattle.

For months, they braced themselves, adding dozens more officers from the Houston Police Department and more private security hired by Live Nation, the concert organizer.
The Houston police chief, who knows Mr. Scott personally and felt the musician had been trying to do good for his hometown, said that he visited Mr. Scott in his trailer before his show on Friday and conveyed concerns about the energy in the crowd, according to a person with knowledge of the chief’s account.
His show that day included very devoted fans, the chief, Troy Finner, said he relayed to Mr. Scott.

Music event crowds have been pretty nuts imxp. This one seems especially crazy, and will probably end in some policy changes, but ya never know.

By far, my anecdote is a country music festival my wife dragged me to a couple years in a row out at Gillette stadium. I've never seen so many drunk shirtless people, almost all wearing cowboy hats. A good deal of them were just sloppy drunk by the time the music actually started.

One of the years, my wife's cousin made it back to her mini van after the concert to be greeted by a huge turd on her windshield.

Only if the police had the ability to shut down an event they found concerning. Regulations are all bad until something like this happens.

Outdoor concerts with GA seating isn't uncommon. The outdoor concert in Las Vegas where over 60 people were killed was setup that way.

If the method of "assembly" results in crushed dead young teens then it needs regulation, specifically no more "festival" seating. If 200,000 people "assembled" on the Golden gate bridge and it started failing due to the extreme loading rules to prevent this would be needed.
