Notes
I made two big mistakes for this meet. The first mistake was that I cut
way too much weight. I had been weighing in around 101kg most mornings the week running up to the meet. The final two days, I cut out all of my main sources of sodium (bread, milk, and deli turkey) and I decided to cut my water off two hours before I made the three hour drive up to Seattle. While this worked pretty well for minimizing bathroom pitstops, it left me very dehydrated Saturday morning. I weighed in at 98.2 kg after having drank 16 oz worth of Gatorade first thing in the morning. As a result of the dehydration and reduced calories for the final two days, my strength was off.
The second mistake was not adjusting my planned second attempt for squat after realizing that my strength was off from the weight cut. If I had adjusted down by 7.5 kg (instead of going for the full 15kg jump), I would have had a much better chance at adding some crucial kilos to my total.
My strength on the bench was not good, but I believe made the best of what I had for the day with my attempt selections. On the third deadlift, I adjusted my third attempt up after I realized that I could make my original goal total of 705 kg if I pulled 317.5 kg. I don't regret that decision as I already had a small deadlift PR on the books and there was no point in any incremental increase in total between the 1515 that I already had and the 1554 total I was gunning for.
