Crucial Ballistix Tracer

I'm thinking about throwing this RAM into my rig that i'm building. I've read that Crucial is just about the best RAM for gaming and such, and the tracer has LED's which are just kinda cool i guess (they're dynamic with RAM usage) , since i'll be using a case with a transparent side panel. So is this RAM worth $74?

No, especially when it had been on sale a couple times lately at $50, with free shipping even.

Right now there's a deal for non-Tracer Ballistix RAM, which are the same thing minus the LEDs. Unless those lights are worth $24 to you... take a peek in Hot Deals.

I find the lights rather useful. I was dubious at first, but they come in handy when you need some insight into what your computer's up to. I'm not sure I'd pay $24 extra for them, but I'd definitely pay $10 more.

RAM with lights on, huh. I didn't think anyone seriously considered buying this. But hey if you want to know when your PC is using the memory (ie: all the time) then go ahead. There's RAM that's just as good for cheaper at the moment, though. Even standard Crucial Ballistix.

Yea, but I don't have to click any buttons to look inside my case. I like lights anyway, but before I got Tracer ram, I never would have considered it. You can tell if a program is hanging, or in some cases, it leads to more questions(like wth is UT3 doing when there's almost no hd or ram activity, but it's still taking forever to load?). It's definitely worth $10 to me for the lights. I'd have to do some thinking about $20 more though.

I like lights, especially since I'll be having a transparent side panel. I definitely want it to be ddr2 800 too. The lights are a lot more convenient than alt tabbing out of a game just to see my RAM usage. I couldn't find any crucial ballistix that was cheaper than $74 that was ddr2 800. I know that the 667 kit is only $56.

I've seen the DDR-2 800 Tracer kits go for as low as $55 for a 2x1 GB set.

I've had them for over a year (I actually had the DDR2-1000 which I paid $330 - $45 MIR which died and Newegg gave me a complete refund which allowed me to buy 4x1 GB of the DDR2-1066 for cheaper! I love Newegg!) and they have come quite handy during times of me trying to figure out how many ram swapping is actually happening.

Task manager would only tell many how ram is being used rather than the actual activity of the RAM, plus its christmas time comoplete with Red and Green themed lights . I've been nicknamed the Christmas computer for that reason. But yeah, $10 extra sure....anything more and i'd stick with the standards. Although a number of times I've seen it actually LESS than the standard ballistix sticks at the same ratings.
