I love all the bragging sans power use calculations. Power use is killer for a lot of people and MUST be accounted for.

I am sure people are accounting for it. A lot of GPU miners could be getting super cheap power. Keep that in mind.

Regulated Price Plan Tiered Pricing - 7.4 ¢/kWh/first 1,000 kWhs used per 30 days

If AMD released (3072 x 2) shader HD8990 for $900, I would be all over that for 2 of them. 20nm Volcanic Islands can't here fast enough.

yeah true. my power bill was 500 last month. but my heat bill was 100. last year my power bill was 200 and my heat bill was 200.

so last month i paid 600 for the 2. a year ago I paid 400. that was a net of 200 more this year. last month i earned 38 coins sold for about 760.

so in jan I was plus 560 net . that is 18 -19 a day net.

this month Coins are selling higher so I am netting about 24 a day.

I sold 42 coins last year at $6. Don't feel bad. :awe:

42!! Lol wow, I definitely feel bad for ya.

I sold 23 at $18 and I'm feeling bad for myself hahaha. My thinking was that there would be a sell off at $20 so the price would tank...lol, didn't happen hahaha. Oh well, I'm still mining and making about 1 BTC every 4 days.

So how much can 2 7970s mine? And also how do you downclock memory?

i use msi afterburner.
i also have more msi gpus then any other.
a pair of 7970's can do 900-1000 hash under clocked at not that hot temp wise and not a lot of power pulled. I can run 2 at 330 watts with 1000 hash.

that is a coin a week. yeah I can do 1250 hash with 2x 7970's, but the power will go up to 550 watts which does not pay. gear will also run very hot.

What happened?!? I left my computer on 24/7 for a long while now.. didn't look for like a week or so, noticed that my bitcoins weren't going up much then looked at the mint speed and saw that it was literally cut in half from last week!

So, it's only breaking even with the price of electricity required to do that right now with my oc'ed 5870 (default voltage, @ 950MHz). The performance is around 400 Mhps.

Is that because of the Jalapeno coming out now?? What's the reason? Will it stay that low?

EDIT - Never mind - whoa, it's now over $20 per btc!

Does the difficulty go down exactly according to how many hashes per second are being calculated at the time?

Wow, 1,000 kWh is a lot (almost 1.4 kWh continuous load), and 7.4 cents is cheaper than average too. But your rates are cheaper than most other people in N. America. Hydro electric is about the cheapest you can get outside of Icelandic geothermal power but most people get their power from a company that burns coal/gas/oil which is more expensive. So your rates are lower than most people's rates. Tier 1 rates are morel like 10-15 cents in most places in the U.S. and that's with a first tier that doesn't go as high as 1000 kWh. For instance in N. California you get like 250 kWh on tier 1 rates @ ~12 cents/kWh. New York is pretty bad too. Hawaii is even worse. And of course as you go up in tiers the power cost goes up astronomically... like 50 cents/kWh for top tier in CA.

Just do not sell, EVER again!! I do feel bad for you.... You would've made like 4x as much now ($750 more), but ... just do not ever sell again!!! Wait until it's $10000 a piece! With 100 of them, that's a million dollars. OOOOOOOOOOHHHH!!!!!!!!

I just started mining yesterday for the first time since I have never had an amd card before. So I was wondering if my mhash rate is ok on a 7950:

800core/800mem: 376mhash
925core/800mem: 433mhash
1000core/800mem: 470mhash
1100core/800mem: 516mhash

arent these numbers a bit low? I followed russian instructions in this post
I am running GUIminer v2012-12-03, I installed this as suggested in russian's post: AMD-APP-SDK-v2.8-Windows-64.exe
I am using 13.2beta drivers and using these extra flags: -w 256 -f1 as russian suggested( I get ~7 less mhash withouth them).
I am also mining for BTCGuild.com if that matters.

so are these numbers ok or do I need to do some tweaking?

my msi 7950 twin frozer get 450 with your setting = 925core/800mem: 433mhash

so you are close and it may be my card is a better card. your mobo and your cpu may also make the small difference.

i also use bitminter may make a difference.

ah thanks for that

noob question: If the value of bitcoins would drop drastically and lots of miners would stop mining, would the difficulty drop too?

Difficulty is directly related to total hashing value (with a little randomness because the algorithm can only estimate total hashing). So, if there is a net reduction in mining, for ANY reason, difficulty will drop.

I am very interested in perhaps starting Bit mining any reccomendations for beginner. I am not too worried about electricity bill, however i don't have alot of money to just drop on a equipment. Any suggestions appreciated, i have a stock 680 4gb but im not too sure i want to bit mine on it seeing as from what i gather they are not as good amd for bit mining.

anyway post if anyone could post ideas,

It would be nice to make maybe 100-300 every other month from bit mining could be worth it.

No it wouldn't be worth it unless you added a AMD card to mine as Nvidia is terrible for mining

GTX 480 ~ 140 Mhash/s
GTX 590 ~ 190 Mhash/s
GTX 680 ~ 120 Mhash/s
HD 5850 ~ 240 Mhash/s
HD 5870 ~ 320 Mhash/s
HD 6770 ~ 190 Mhash/s
HD 7750 ~ 125 Mhash/s

Unless you have free or almost free electricity or were going to get a card *anyway*, then don't count on making very much money for very long.. it's a pipe dream to think you can make 100-300 every other month for very long with just one card, especially as people are starting to receive the first ASIC mining rigs. ASICs are starting to be shipped in quantity right now and each ASIC minirig is equal to several DOZEN 7970s and take a LOT less electricity to run. Thus difficulty is sure to rise dramatically, but price is not sure to rise with it.

GPU miners are lucky so far that coin prices rose. What happens to profitability if prices were to fall back to say, $10? Notice how dead this thread was until the recent skyrocketing of bitcoin prices? That is how it'd be again if prices fell back down to $10. And if you're so sure that bitcoin prices will rise to keep up with the imminent rise in difficulty, then it's more profitable to directly buy coins with money rather than buying mining equipment.

But once again, if you have free or almost free electricity then you may be able to survive as difficulty skyrockets. But you won't be making that much with one card, it will just keep going down because your share of the 3600 coins per day will keep doing down.

And yes, NV cards are terrible for mining.

Sorry any idea on how much can 2 X 7970's make a day? Also how do I downclock memory ?

Nobody can predict the future for you. And even if they could, they still could not answer your question because you don't list your wattage at load or electricity rates. Assuming a typical setup and electric rates, you could net about $1.44 per day or about $3 for 2 x 7970, but that assumes price stays constant and difficulty stays constant, and as I explained above, price might go up or down, but difficulty WILL go way up over time. So don't expect $3/day to last long.

Downclock via MSI Afterburner or similar software (Sapphire TRIXX, etc.). The basic AMD control panel can also do that for you but won't allow for voltage control.

unless you have the gear do not consider this it is just not worth buying the gear.

lets say you have the gear.

lets say you have gpu's that will unlock.

msi r7970's are good.. lets say you unlock and clock low.

you will hash at 1000 with pretty much low heat medium fans.

I hash 7000 my 7000 earns 1.2 coins a day. your 1000 will earn 1.2 coins a week.

so 5 coins a month would be 125 bucks. not counting your power use.

low clock you can pull 333 watts an hour to get the 1000 hash.

so every 3 hours 1 k-watt 8 k-watts a day 240 k watts a month.

my price in NJ is 16 cents or 38 bucks say 40 so 125 in coins minus 40 is 85 bucks in

a month. is what to expect for maybe 1 or 2 months. At best

all this will change a lot when the asics fully drop.

your idea of mining with 2 x 7970's only makes sense if you have all the gear on

hand you can join a pool like bitminter.com for free

and be mining in under an hour. if the asics come out fast and the difficulty gets

real bad you can stop mining . since you had the gear on hand you lost nothing.

buying the gear today is a crazy gamble if you want a better gamble just buy a pair

of jalapeños from butterfly labs.

Nobody can predict the future for you. And even if they could, they still could not answer your question because you don't list your wattage at load or electricity rates. this is all pretty much correct.^

Thank you for getting back to me yeah i wouldn't be using my 680 to mine if you could reccomend a good low priced amd card id be glad to take that into consideration, if i could generate 1 coin every 2 days that would seem worth it to me, just tell me what i would need hopefully something under $400, but i will take anything into consideration.
thanks again for your reply

This card will give you 400 to 500 hash

http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html...A2L77EE7U53NWQ

this is the used price 30 day return policy.

just tell amazon it does not work correctly.

400 to 500 hash will make a coin about every 2 weeks.

I do not think you should get into mining as buying a used card for 280 or new for 310 to earn 2 coins a month is not good

money sense. this is not counting that mining will soon have asics that kill.

if you want to have some fun buy a jalapeno from butterfly labs it will cost you 149 and 14 to ship.

it will hash 4000 to 4500 you may have to wait 3 months to get it.

For the 7950, I always got more mhash from cgminer using the diablo core. Mine runs about 550 mhash at 1075mhz, and maybe 530 mhash at 1030mhz.

Wow, only $25/week using 2 7970s. I was earning that much last year with a 7870 and a 7850. It's getting really hard to mine the coins now.
