I've been optimizing core/mem with a stable TC/Intensity.

Now I'm optimizing TC with Int=20, and I find a very odd thing. Multiples of 64 are supposedly the rule, however I find that by adding 1 to them boost my KH/s by 70!!!!!

Adding +2 to a 64-bit multiple drops the TC down again.

anyone got an idea? I'll share my tests on TC.

Also here's my Core/mem optimizing.

1500Mhz memory on my elpida seems to require too much vcore and produce too much heat/watt for my liking.

Did you get The Stilt to optimize your memory timings on your R290? That's some interesting results you got there. I thought higher core and memory clock was always better.

I just tried using TC 24001 on my 7950 optimized by The Stilt and didn't get a change in hash speeds.

I'm using no special optimizations or .bin's

Can someone share the technique for flashing the BIOS to a Powercolor 7950 PCS+ ?

I've flashed BIOS on various 58XX cards, but there was no dual BIOS switch. So I guess my question is, does the 7950 come with the same BIOS on either switch setting, so it makes absolutely no difference whether I flash on switch setting 1 or 2? Or is there a preference? I had planned to flash to BIOS #2, and I've already verified the type of memory and appropriate modified BIOS from the Stilt.

It looked good until it needed Java. I don't want that widely used malware target on my machine where I also dabble in coins.

It's not Java per se that's dangerous, it's just the dumb browser plugin. You can turn this off from the control panel applet. There are some worthwhile Java desktop apps, but 99% of users don't need Java running in the browser.

Then that's probably why. Look for an optimized vBIOS by The Stilt for your GPU and it might save you tons of time.

I googled and I can't find any 290 bios that the Stilt has made "YET"

Do you know more than I?

Knowing whether or not BTC will have any disastrous, price-dropping events occur and you're clairvoyant. You may as well start palm reading. It's always a gamble. In the long run, you'll be ahead if you buy and hold since the acceptance and knowledge of crypto is growing; which is a fact.

Big exchanges or transmitters running into legal or technical difficulties are inevitable hiccups in a growing market gaining acceptance.

It's already stabilized since about 4 hours ago when it dipped again and started climbing back once again.

There's really no reason for the price to be this high though. Bitcoin is useful as a payment processor, but it's being hurt by the day traders because they are causing these wild swings. You almost need them to get wiped out for the price to stabilize to the point where the volatility is not much.

No, the wild swings are being caused by drastic issues with exchanges. Fluctuating a few % is normal, same as any stock or investment.

Look at any graph over the last few years and you'll see what I mean. All the great dips or spikes can be attributed to large events with exchanges or markets being made available or dropping out, not day traders playing with everyone's portfolios. This isn't something that small that can be so easily manipulated by even a large amount of pump-and-dump supporters.

What are you basing your reasons for the price not to be this high? It's a direct reflection of supply/demand. You can give all the reasons you want to, but it is what it is and for exactly that reason; whether you can agree to it or not. These are the early stages of BTC maturing into a currency instead of a commodity and trade manipulation will be very difficult from here-on out (altcoins are a completely different story).

Keep in mind you have to have $$$$'s in capital to even mine a single bitcoin these days - difficulty is sky high and growing exponentially so that should be reflected in the price going forward.

Regarding MtGox, the writing's been on the wall for some time. I switched to Bitstamp like a year ago. People have been warning not to use them given all the stuck BTC withdrawals, plus the inability to get fiat out in any reasonable time.

Why they are still listed as a 'Gold Member' of the Bitcoin foundation I have no idea, Mark Karpeles should be kicked off the board IMO.

Good read on the state of things at MtGox here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1x9gue/my_protest_at_mtgox_offices_5_to_7th_february/

What are you insinuating with localbitcoins? Robberies or something else? Is it common?

I'm guessing we're talking about big money, not just a BTC or two.
Normal people won't pay the price of the loss to go complain, on top of it he sat for 16 hrs to get there.

Mt Gox are a bit of a joke, considering their size, stature in the community and the amount of money that they handle.

I'm about 80% sure that the current issues are "technical", and that it's not something like a hack, or embezzling.

Gox have had technical problems for quite some time, and indeed, in the link above about the guy that protested outside their offices, it's been revealed that they don't even have a full development environment for testing software upgrades - they tend to upload straight onto the live system.

A detailed comment about a known bug in the gox system which could have caused this chaos is here

My current understanding and inference is that the remaining issues are because while MtGox was producing transactions of the bad form that the network won't relay anymore— some people decided to help out by 'fixing' these transactions like BC.i did for iphone users— making the signatures normal and broadcasting them. Of course, the new transactions— while functionally identical— have different TXIDs.
The difference here is that the MtGox wallet software appears to have not handled this case gracefully at all, and apparently simply wouldn't notice transactions that it "didn't make" spending its own coins.
As a result the Mtgox wallet believed some coins were available for spending which really had already been spent and it began double spending those inputs. This may have interacted particularly poorly with the earlier workaround I mentioned— trying to always use the oldest available coins— if they did implement that workaround.

Police entrapment operations.

A cop buys a bitcoin on localbitcoins and agrees to meet. At the meeting, they say something idiotic like, "yeah. I'm gonna buy that sweet bag of coke I saw on Silk Road".

You take the cash, and release the BTC.

Next thing, you're in cuffs and being hauled to jail.

Apparently, at least in Florida, the cops consider use of LocalBitcoins to be money laundering:

I don't understand. The first comment on that site pretty much explained my thoughts..

So in Florida, I can't sell my car to someone independently, or I'll go to jail? Because these people were just selling Bitcoin for cash. Neither Florida, nor the United States government have defined Bitcoin as a currency yet and as such there was no "transmission" of funds. So I'm failing to see how these guys broke any laws. This is just harassment of Bitcoin users by a fearful government.

I don't know much about the Florida laws for money laundering.

But in general, my understanding is that if you are dealing with a transaction over a certain size limit, you MUST do due diligence as to who you are dealing with (i.e. check their passport, SSN, drivers licence, etc.) and you must make reasonable enquiries as to where the money has come from (i.e. if being paid in cash, insist on seeing the bank withdrawral receipt or a bank statement showing the withdrawral)

The same also applies if you are making multiple smaller transactions to the same person. If you don't do the due diligence, then it is money laundering.

It was this sort of thing that screwed over Mt Gox last year. The Feds seized their bank account precisely because Gox hadn't kept SSNs, copies of passports, etc.

However, a lot of places also define money laundering as handling money that had been used or is intended to be used in a drug transaction. In that case, all a cop needs to do is mention drugs before handing you some cash, and they've got you. The cops tried this several times with Robert Faiella, but he declined the transactions as soon as they mentioned drugs. They did eventually get him for laundering money for Silk Road through other means.

Edit: NM - either use Linux or be prepared to jump through hoops to get it working in Windows. It's a driver/Windows limitation.

Much better, switched all 3 rigs to BAMT and upped to 16GB RAM and am now hovering between 380-400 kH/s per card.

Out of curiosity, are there any native http clustering tools like Nagios for BAMT or do I have to design my own? The lazy side of me would like to just start a IIS service on an existing media server and spit out reports and perform uptime alerts/etc.
