Is this recent crash from China banning banks from using Bitcoin? Could the US government follow and if so, would that obliterate the value of Bitcoin? I would think that if people can't easily convert Bitcoin to USD, the value will die.

Here is a Chinese banker making sense of the "bad news":

Joseph Wang's answer to:
China: How will China's recent crack down on Bitcoins impact it's near-term and long-term value?

Joseph Wang's answer to:
China: What is the situation regarding Bitcoin from the perspective of someone in China?

It's actually really good news, but has been misinterpreted and used as a reason to sell at the end of a rally (it would have gone down even without the "bad news"). Don't worry, it will bounce back.

How do you mine with a 290x? It's either ridiculously loud or temperatures are constantly 94C.

I really want to watercool, but I'm worried about bricking such an expensive card.

My computers are always water cooled since I hate the noise generated from GPU and CPU fans. My radiator fans run at 6v and since I overkill on radiator I never run into any problems and the system is basically silent.

If you take your time its very easy especially if you are not modding your case at all. All of this stuff used to be so much harder back in the day.

The LTC difficulty has exploded over the last week.

When I built my mine 10 days ago, I was getting 3 LTC per 24 hours at a cost of $12 in electricity.
Now the difficulty has pretty much doubled, so I'm now only getting 1.5 LTC per 24 hours.

It's still profitable, even with the recent collapse in cryptocoin prices, but nothing like what it was.

Ugh, tell me about it. Barely getting 2 LTC per day at current difficulties, and projected to get lower.

Haha yeah tell me about it...

I lost count of how many socket 754/939 motherboards I've ruined thanks to water cooling leaks

I haven't tried water cooling since those good old days, but it sure seems like it is so much easier to do nowadays.

To me good ol days is when you had to drill your own copper to make the block WAY back in the day. Way before 939..

How did you get it to work?

I've been trying to do the same thing but as soon as I switch my monitor to the iGPU, my video card drivers don't load and they become useless.

Well how I did it, I somewhat followed this post here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170470.msg1774223#msg1774223

I had the Intel iGPU drivers already installed since I used it for my display before I got my dGPU so I didn't need to fool around with any driver installation.

And for the "dummy plug" I used this method as described here: https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=2689.msg31520#msg31520

Basically you just plug a monitor into both your iGPU and dGPU, because that somehow tricks the MOBO into thinking that device is active (or something like that).

Once you've done that, you need to include in your .bat file "--gpu-platform 1" with 1 being the designated slot of your mining GPU as identified with the "cgminer -n" command. My Intel iGPU was 0, 7950 was 1, hence why the 1 used.

Now I did come across people saying that you may be limited by your MOBO since some do not allow you to use both your iGPU and dGPU. FYI my MOBO is ASRock Extreme4.

Sorry for the less than detailed instructions, I'm super new to this. Hope this helps.

Ugh I sold 41 LTCs at like $9 literally within 24 hours before it jumped to $30+. Now I had the chance to sell 5 at $35 but thought I would hold out for the $40 mark again and it then drops to $20. I 'm terrible at this.

Someone has to be terrible for someone else to profit in market cycles :\

You should have a set goal, if the price hit a certain amount then sell it. Mine is BTC at $10,000 each, which would have LTC at around $400 to $500 each.

Friend of a friend mine works at a big retailer in the UK. He says, that he's been getting a big bunch of corporate orders all week for 100 7990 cards, or 50 R290 cards at a time.

If those cards are going where I think they're going, the difficulty is going to be insane this time next week.

Recently re-installed my 7950 to do some mining on the side again. I have a gtx 770 as my main card for gaming. Tried to use Trixx to tweak my card like I used to but can't change any settings now . Does running two dissimilar cards and drivers give rise to this?

Have you tried MSI Afterburner?

BitCoin mining is good for the big-boys but not so much for people without the budget. I personally prefer litecoin mining.

Just installed it and tried it. It picks up both of my cards but won't allow me to change anything on either.

Are you using 2.3.1 or 3.0 beta?

Also, go into settings and make sure unlock voltage control & monitoring is checked.

It happens. I had 85,000 Quarkcoins and I sold them all in October. They jumped so hight in late November the 85k I had would of generated 17 Bitcoins. :/

I did find 20 LTC in my laptops wallet I forgot about.

I am holding onto my 9k worth of BTC and Alt coins for a while but I should of sold one BTC when the price was over 1K USD.

Using version 2.3.1 Yep, got both of those checked. Afterburner is picking up everything about my gtx 770, fan speed, temp and usage etc but its only picking up the memory usage on my 7950. Any other suggestions?
