That circuit is overloaded, since it may have other [larger] appliances on it as well.

If it's that serious, you may need a dedicated circuit for your mining configuration.

FYI: water cooling will only add to the watts consumed.

Edit: depending on the age of your house and the wiring, you may want to have an electrician inspect the wiring and test those circuits for you. Typically you shouldn't be tripping the circuits in a modern house unless you have a very large farm there.

You can trip them easily as the are normaly calculated with a 0.5 coincidence ratio. Also every outlet is calculated for only 100w, unless exceptions like the one going into a kitchen, for example. A simple rule of thumb is that every five outlets, you put four for 100w and the fifth for 400w. This would make a 10 outlet circuit be rated for only 800w ((8*100w+2*400w)*0.5).

Ps: must suck to calculate amperage in the US, as you have to divide that wattage by the 110v and not the 220v that pretty much everyone else uses

Negativo. Circuit tripping is very uncommon in the U.S. save for older homes that had 15A circuits. We typically calculate each circuit as a zone, and not by outlet individually, and that rating is a standard of 2400W per circuit. Most newer houses have 20A or even 30A circuits, and the amount of outlets is based on the perceived use of them; which ranges depending on the zone.

Yeah, we do things wrong compared to most of the rest of the world. I absolutely hated imperial measurement conversion and read-outs when doing any architectural work. We're stubborn like that.

I would have guessed americans calculate their circuits like they like their car engines

Yeah, 2400w is plenty enough for a circuit. At least one that would face normal usage. For miners 2400w is pocket change

I might also add that times change and that rule of thumb is from an age where you didnt have more than 2 outlets per living room, only 1 per bedroom, etc.
Although its old, it would fit the reality of europe and their high electricity charges, and that lame go green trend

I dont particulary like french people but i will always thank them for the metric system. Well that and human rights/the modern Nation.

A night of GeForce.

~600 KH/s @ 350w .55% stalls

Perhaps I can supplement a G-Sync upgrade in the near future with a bit o crypto via GeForce... That would be nice... If the bosses would allow it :|

We are definitely entering mania phase (assuming we haven't already):

Hmm, shouldn't we be on the downswing already after that news in Mid-December that cause a massive tanking in Bitcoin's price?

O well so I removed one of my video cards and now my driver keeps crashing. Just going to do a fresh install and turn off auto updates.

Catcoin-QT forking happening at the next block! Difficulty at 16! Let's see what this does to Catcoin. I've already switched from from DOGE to CAT.

Current Block 20288

Happens at 20290. But difficulty retargets will be much quicker so I doubt it will be at 16 for long.

I see that news as just a small portion of the "media attention" zone of mania. So in my mind I think it's going to just get bigger. The wildcard would be if China eventually gives in and allows bitcoin again, causing another fluctuation. But bitcoin is still rather rare as most people on the street don't know about it, so there is still lots of public awareness to be gained during the mania phase before the crossover into the next phase following mania.

The chinese pull-out and the fast recovery have shown us that the BTC community don't put too much weight on China. But thanks to all that, a lot of publicity meant that many people from more countries are now aware of cryptocoins.

hi guys, newbie miner here, trying to get cgminer working but it never seems to want to connect to any server. here's the error message i get regardless of which server i try to configure:

[2014-01-04 14:44:52] Started cgminer 3.7.2
[2014-01-04 14:44:52] Probing for an alive pool
[2014-01-04 14:45:52] No servers were found that could be used to get work from.
[2014-01-04 14:45:52] Please check the details from the list below of the servers you have input
[2014-01-04 14:45:52] Most likely you have input the wrong URL, forgotten to add a port, or have not set up workers
[2014-01-04 14:45:52] Pool: 0 URL: stratum+tcp://usa2.wemineltc.com:3334 User: darckhart.1 Password: 123456
[2014-01-04 14:45:52] No servers could be used! Exiting.

my setup:
win 8.1 x64
sapphire radeon 290x
catalyst 13.12
cgminer 3.7.2

i've tried rolling back to earlier drivers and installing the APP SDK, always doing full driver sweeper in between. no luck with any. and i think earlier cats dont even detect my card.

any advice? thanks!

You're probably connecting to an old stratum server which is no longer active.

Add this to your bat file or accordingly edit whatever you are using to start cg miner:

-o stratum+tcp://stratum+tcp://usa.wemineltc.com:3334

For a full list of servers, you can visit this link:

I ran a test and the following worked fine for me:

Code:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://usa2.wemineltc.com:3334 -u darkhart.1 -p 123456

I'm guessing you left out the scrypt switch.

thanks for the suggestions. tried switching server. definitely included the --scrypt switch.

thanks for checking and confirming it works. unfortunately, i get the same error message. very annoying. gonna look for a spare hard drive and reinstall everything.

try adding a new worker and password and try those credentials. I have 10 workers and once in awhile worker.x doesn't connect so I just use worker.y

But yes a format and reinstall is probably less time consuming. Some times if my worker size or tc numbers are not right it won't connect.

I'm trying to get down watts on a 270 non x setup. It's a temporary setup because it's 2x270 in a closed entertainment center shelf…. had to tweak a number of things to keep temps ok, but top card runs 79c, bottom 65c. Anyways temporary b/c at min i'll need to remove one card so I can wind down the noise in that room and keep temps ~65c. Just waiting on pci extenders….

The cards are pulling 722.5Kh/s as currently setup. Have to drop intensity on top card to lower temps but it kills hash rate on these cards. They do best at -I 18. But for 2x270 non x my rig is pulling 410-420w at the wall using a Belkin Meter. I had expected this to be closer to 350w. Can a 1x6pin card, as these cards are, pull more than 150w? I have power tune set to 0 for both cards. Oddly if I lower power tune to -10 or -20 only one card throttles, but hash rate appears minimally affected (<1%). Powertune is something I'm still exploring, but I no longer set it to +20 and forget it.

The cards run off a gold rated Corsair. Eventually both cards will probably go into a bare bones miner on a platinum PSU, but I had run the numbers with the cards drawing max 150w for 420-440kh/s and it looks like they may be drawing more. Unclear about how much they can draw from PCI slot and 6pin. CPU is a 2500k that runs in idle with -0.065v offset and HWMonitor indicates it's pulling 5-10w 95% of the time. Hard drives are set to idle after 5 mins and then there are 6 fans running.
A 270 non X should easily be able to get at least 450kH/s. I have a HiS boost version (lowest clocked one) and I was able to get it up to about 470-480 max, but it was not stable. It was pretty stable at 450-460 though and ran extremely cool compared to the rest of the cards I am running.
... They can use up to 75 W (3.3 V/3 A + 12 V/5.5 A). Optional connectors add 75 W (6-pin) and/or 150 W (8-pin) power for up to 300 W total (2×75 W + 1×150 W)
Each 6 pin PCI-e power connector can draw up to 75W and each PCI-e slot can also draw a max of 75W. That means if the card has only one 6 pin connector, it can draw a maximum of 150W.
