Crashing again... if LTC falls to $15 or BTC falls to $500 and looks to be bottoming out I'm going to buy in. Silverforce may be right... it's probably a good bet to just sit on the coins. BTC could definitely go well over $1000 and be stable well above that. $10000 a piece even. At that point LTC would skyrocket even more exponentially.

Currently: BTC@$762, LTC@$21.9.

It's really starting to look like we are now in the last phase of the bubble after "return to normal". And the 31st is just lining up perfectly for this, I'm looking for $400 BTC, and $10-$12 LTC. I actually just have orders waiting at BTC-e because we've already been there, I just wasn't online trading when it happened (overnight).

It's funny how much I've learned about chart patterns and trading by day trading LTC here and there on BTC-e. I mean, I gained 9% in fiat today while everything dropped 20%. That's like a double win when considering buying power. But I'm not good at predicting the long-term trends yet. Just the sub-hour time frames for some quick in and outs. I mean really, I've learned more about trading than I ever could have in the stock market over the next 5 years. The crypto market runs 10 times as quickly and is 24/7. But it's too time consuming, and just mentally consuming as well. That's why I just want this bubble to end so I can go long (invest what I can afford to lose) and just forget about cryptos. And difficulty should drop as well so I can mine some more coins over the next year before scrypt ASICs make GPU mining obsolete (won't be as quick as SHA ASICs, but will still happen).

Newbie question here. So running a miner on my gaming machine. Can I just kill cgminer whenever I want to play games in the evening and then turn it on again when I'm all done?

Yes. I actually find for some games I can mine in the background with only a minimal loss in performance.

But yeah, stop when playing and start it up again when you are done is what I do on my main desktop.

I was mining RPC a few days ago and copy & pasted my balance onto a spreadsheet: 0.9167611. Today I log in to the pool at http://198.50.157.243/index.php and find my balance to be 0.61534016. I emailed the pool operator about the missing balance and this is what he said:

I am sorry for any problems you are having with the pool. In regards to your incorrect balance, check your confirmed/unconfirmed on the website, and your outgoing address. I would also change your password along with the password of any other pools you mine on. Our pool has a clean track record, and is highly praised on the ronpaulforums. We are also set up using a 3rd party business called Livechains.net. As the owner of this pool, livechains restricts my privileges. I literally do not have the ability to mess with your balance. I even have to request withdrawals from my own wallet from livechains.

I would also suggest tracking down your transaction on the block explorer whenever it becomes available again, last I checked it has been down for a few days now.

This was the only pool I mined RPC on and I haven't set any payout address.
I'm guessing I'm SOL at this point and won't be able to recover the lost balance?

Check for orphaned blocks.

Sorry, how do I do that exactly? On the pool's block page I only see the last 20 blocks

The swings are just not natural in anyway, is it like this every month? Is it all bots that are moving the markets?

I just installed my 2nd 270 and am dealing with heat issues (side panel off with fan on it for now) in my crampt coolermaster storm scout mid tower case. When I make enough profit (so wife doesn't complain) I was thinking of getting a bigger case for better airflow. What cases do you guys use? I do have milk crates but I really don't want to go that route.

I can't believe you're having heat issues with 270s! You must have a really bad case. I can relate though, I bought a Raidmax case that was absolutely atrocious. I use it for my 7850 and an i5 2500k with a corsair h60.

Anyways, these are the other two I am using and I would highly recommend:
Cooler Master HAF 912 - High Air Flow Mid Tower Computer Case
Antec GX500 Black Computer Case

At $25 after MIR, I basically feel like I stole that Antec case which by the way comes with 3x120mm fans... Favorite feature about the Antec case has to be the removable air filters which do a damn good job of keeping the majority of junk out of my case! After just 2 weeks of use, I couldn't believe the amount of junk that was piled up onto the air filters. Even the slightly more expensive CM HAF 912 lacks in this area.

I got the CM HAF 912 for under $50 after MIR, so neither of the two cases are considered high end. But they sure as heck have great airflow and have no troubles accomodating my extremely long reference 7970 as well as a non-reference Sapphire 7950, neither of which could fit in my terrible Raidmax case.

Exchange rates are affected by various variables that affect the supply and demand for that currency; this is actually an area of research in macroeconomics.

The recent drop in Bitcoin prices are the result of people selling their Bitcoins. The reason in both cases seem to be events that render Bitcoin less useful for some users. The most recent one was that Chinese Ebay-wannabe site imposing those restrictions on Bitcoin-related services and products The surge just prior was some store saying they would accept Bitcoin, attracting many bitcoin buyers.

If you want to know about some other variables that affect exchange rates, here's a google search: https://www.google.com/search?q=variables+that+affect+exchange+rates

Being flagged as "High risk transactions". I'm guessing that my pittance amount will get that prestigious moniker, but hey, who knows!

Interesting. I sold 1 BTC @ about $720-ish about 2 weeks ago, during Christmas. Finally deposited by like the 2nd or 3rd. No issues. Perhaps it needs to be in the thousands or something?

You may be right about the Chinese ban, Jan 31st thing. Not so sure though, I kind of figured that that news already effected the price. I mean every one is aware of it. I doubt BTC will go that low.

I'll be mining for another 3 months at least. I'll see where prices are going and gauge when I want to start selling my miners. I'll likely keep my double 7950 setup for the longest. Might pick up a scrypt ASIC.....

If you want to keep the case you'll need to undervolt them to 1.075 or less.

Otherwise get em at least 2" apart from back of one to fan of the other. The back of the cards toss a ton of heat at stock volts and any clocks above 950 on the core.

But I think undervolting will help you a lot. You can get gpu-z to check for voltage readings and try MSI afterburner for adjusting voltages.

I get lol's from it and am mining it just for kicks. Apparently Kanye isn't happy about it! (surprise surprise)

Sweet, I didn't realized it had launched, pointing my weak-ass miners at it now. Were you able to download the wallet? My coinye's are in a trusted pool ATM but I would like to be able to get them out somehow....

EDIT: NM, I found the wallet... www.coinyecoin.org. Not available at the main site.

No, haven't set up the wallet yet.

Got 75k unconfirmed in an hour @1.2Mh. Wonder what these will trade for on the market.. It'll benefit from more free publicity from Kanye himself.

Since it's not listed on any exchanges, hopefully the middlecoin type pools haven't moved into it yet? This is my first rodeo, tell me how this usually goes down...

This one hit the fan quick. Difficulty is already at 70 and set to rise quickly.

Basically once it hits the exhanges it will (probably) go straight up, followed by an as quick or quicker drop down into the abyss.

I didn't see anything compelling about this coin other than initial popularity. I guess everyone is trying to cash in following the dogecoin etc. craze.

So for an R9 280x whats a good temperature to keep the card at? I managed to tweak my settings and am getting 600 Kh/s at ~78-80C. I was getting 700 Kh/s but I was feeling a little uncomfortable when I started going over 85C.

The nice thing is that this one has an attention-whore celebrity lawsuit attached to it. Doges are fun for the Reddit/4chan crowd, but there's hardly a grandma in the country who hasn't heard of Kanye West. And tomorrow they're going to hear about Coinye West. Nothing like a little free publicity to generate interest.

Indeed. This has dogecoin/internet-nerd comedy trappings with bigger than life celebrity drama attached to it. Hopefully he will have a press meeting about and it and rattle off something about nerds soiling his good name and make us all millionaires.

In other news:

BTC already bounced. @ $820 and looks like it's climbing.

Fu*&! I need to get some sleep.
