Crysis and FPS

I'm sure there are countless threads about FPS and Crysis, but everything I seem to find is not related to later video cards.

I'm getting low fps with Crysis when I think I should be getting more somehow?.....I might be being unrealistic though...but anyway, here are my specs...

i7 950
Asus Sabertooth x58
6gb Corsair Dominator
2x GTX 570s

I run at 1920x1080, all settings very high, and 16Q AA or whatever it is.....I do not have vsync on.

I'm getting about 29fps average on the crysis benchmark, that flyby one on the island.

Now I'm finding it hard to believe that two powerful video cards can deliver this low fps...I know everything is set to high and AA is maxed....but does this sound right to you guys?

What do you guys get with Crysis running these settings?

is your 950 overclocked at all? Have you tried natural mod? Have you looked at tweakguides? Have you used the almighty goggle?

AA kills FPS..lower it to 2x and rerun...

Sounds wrong, but I never run Crysis with those sorts of AA levels, totally unnecessary. Even 8XQ is too much of a performance hit in Crysis. Try the bench with just 4XAA or plain 8XAA.

At 2560x1600 I believe I was getting around 50 fps or so on very high with 4xAA on that bench with 480SLI which is the same as 570SLI. With the third card I get around 70fps now.

Short story, turn down the AA to 4x and re-run.

agree, some games do indeed look ok with no AA but crysis is definatley not one of them.

Would an overclock on the CPU give me any noticeable benefit?

Well, I just ran the benchmark with 4x AA and I got an average framerate of 32fps. Am I looking in the right spot? I'm just going by the average fps figure displayed in the top left of the benchmark.

My drivers are up to date, I've selected SLI in nvidia config....something doesn't seem right....this is low eh?

AA in crysis? Crysis looks best Edge AA (which you can enhance with console commands). Doesn't work with MSAA, but MSAA only results in disgusting edges on the flora when viewed against the skybox.

I dunno, i tried to run the benchmark but the one i had apparently doesn't work under windows 7. So i played the first 15 min of the game, all settings on very high 4x AA and seemed to be averaging about 30-35FPS. I was using fraps to keep a eye on FPS, which BTW makes me suck at actually playing the game

This is the latest patch of the original crysis, not warhead. latest nvidia drivers. I have 2 GTX 460's at 800mhz.

That score is right in line with a single 570. Sounds like SLI might not be working now.

Is this game terribly coded or what? I just bought a 470 and it runs silky smooth @19x12/Enthusiast/0xAA which is great... but I've already had to reinstall once because some glitch prevented me from advancing in a level. Graphics are often flickery or distorted somewhat if I minimize/maximize (or even if I don't)... enemies can see me around walls and hills and crap (playing on hard).

The graphics are still amazing (best I've seen in any game... amazing what it does without physx and being 3 years old) but it does seem quite buggy!

Crysis was nothing more than a benchmark to begin with, that's my opinion. It sucks horribly as a game.

runs fine for me i played it through and had zero lockups or crashes, although i do agree with raven, its not a great game i played it with cheats and mostly to check out the awesome graphics.

install the natural mod OP and leave AA at 2x and enjoy the game...stop watching fps...play the damn game....also look at tweakguides....


If you ask for help at least look at the responses...

This is easy, Its the AA that is killing your performance,, put it to 4x and youll see that 29fps go up to 55fps. Your crazy 16x AA is too much,, take it to 4x AA and 16x AF and turn vsync on to not get any image tearing and tell us what your fps is then. Thanks

Also FYI Crysis engine is pretty but its horribly optimized. Where as UT3 engine is optimized and fast and looks better then Crysis.

That 16x AA is taking down 30fps if not more. Take it to 4x and AF 16x and it should go to 50fps if not more. gl

I think its a great game graphically and artistically, but its definitely not coded/optimized to the max and is quite buggy...

i have had the game repeatedly try to play in windowed mode, or sometimes the view of the gun and your hands disappears when going out of cloak mode and switching weapons or going into weapon menu, or even pausing the game. (this was kinda rare but happened more than once), in the final level there were a few times when i slipped through the floor to the deck below from the top of the ship

But this takes the cake;
in the final boss battle, when you are supposed to use the TAC gun to fry the fat bastard, i never got the chance to get the damn gun!!!! in the middle of that level i see the guy putting it in the locker, and keep playing, and the game never lets you go back and get the stupid tac gun. so while im sitting there like an idiot trying to fire bazookas at the boss and the dumb girl in the aircraft is yelling : "use the TAC gun" im screaming back : "I dont have a friggin TAC gun" !!! highlight of my pc gaming life lol i tried replaying the level, went back to old save files, and gave up

it was so pathetic i had to go to youtube to watch some dude beat the game so i could feel satisfied... lol

lol i never went back to that area , just kept going, but that qualifies as a bug!!! when the game lets you progress to the end without a crucial item thats NEEDED to finish the game - thats wrong, and they should give you that weapon once you get to the final boss anyways so thats another bug....BOOO now im gona go back and replay that level lol
