Oh, Crysis... for such a great game, it's a crying shame (see what I did there?) there's no co-op play. Around the point that I escaped that base surrounded by a river canyon by ramming an army truck through a blockade while dodging helicopter fire, I asked myself... why don't I have second or third players to man the other seats when all of the vehicles support multiple seating arrangements?

Welcome to 2007!

For me, it was Quake and Half-Life

Actually, the most amazing wow moment was probably seeing "Giants: Citizen Kabuto" for the first time. It helped that it was being displayed on an Apple Cinema display which also blew my mind

I found a copy of my config in an e-mail
When i get home tonight i will check this config against the one i'm currently using to make sure it is the same version (this one might be slightly different than my final config)

Please note: The memory settings in <SystemBudget> should be tailored to your particular system/gpu

sorry there is NO way you run Crysis 1 maxed smoothly at 1080 on a 5770. NO chance

EDIT: decided to check it out on those settings(DX10 very high with 2x AA) with my gtx560 se and averaged 24 fps with mostly just walking around. my card would be about 25% faster than a 5770.

And you'd be correct. Fraps shows a steady 20 fps just walking around. But I dunno, it just feels smooth and stutter-free -- unlike some games which I can get around 30 or 40 FPS, like Deus Ex Human Revolution.

yeah that is true that Crysis feels like its running much faster than the framerate indicates.

I finally picked up the Crysis games in the Steam sale this past week -- all of 'em: Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Crysis 2. And...I get it. The amount of detail in them is astounding. The fine detail to the nanosuits, the swaying grass, the precise light from flashlights -- it's all remarkable.

Did anyone else have a similar reaction upon the first time playing Crysis? Was there another game where you were simply awed by the level of detail put into it?

I will note that Crysis 1 seems to run well enough on my 5770 at stock clocks maxed out in everything except MSAA (which was set to 2x), though there was a noticeable slowdown when I got near a sparking flare. Crysis 2, on the other hand, is noticeably jittery throughout even when I boosted the GPU clock to 900 MHz. I'm fairly sure that one of the culprits is excessive tessellation bogging down the 5770's limited tessellation engine.

Yeah. It definitely is still head and shoulders above other games that have come out.

All this Crysis talk...
The first level, Contact, when you are on the plane and Prophet is giving the team the intel, then you jump out, skydive down, hit the water... EPIC!

Best first level of an action first person shooter ever. IMO

Yea I remember first playing Crysis on my 38700 and the at the beginning of the game I was amazed to realize that yes, this was real time and wasn't a prerendered movie.

I get the impression all the peeps calling Crysis the best FPS ever haven't played many others. I'd choose HL1, HL2, all of the Stalker games any day over Crysis.

Crysis 1 starts to suck once you get to the aliens. the real baffle was the switch from flying aliens to walking ones in Crysis 2. i'm sure they fit it in the story somewhere and i missed it, but i don't care cause it was a stupid story to begin with.

The freeze gun was fun, i dropped it in using the editor at the beginning level, pretty neat to freeze enemies to death. What killed it for me though was the stupid A.I. they can flank good but thats about it.
shoot them in the foot and as long as they don't see you, they become super retarded.

imo, Crysis 2 gameplay was much better, though with toned down graphics compared to the first 1.
i found the lighting in warhead to be weird, i think they toned down the textures in that one as well to raise fps cause gamers complained so much.

I think most of the people in here are referring the graphics in Crysis when they use the word "best".

There certainly are better FPS genre games with regard to gameplay... I'd nominate System Shock 2, as the single best FPS ever.

You'd be wrong. HL2 was great, but Stalker is clunky in comparison. Crysis was very enabling, it didn't try to limit you as a player or try make you tackle an objective in a particular way in most levels. That is rare even today, especially when it still allows knee-jerk reactions with the suit - a great contrast to the planning element that the level design encourages.

The problem with Crysis, is that is doesn't show it's full hand at any point, unlike HL2 or other fps games. It's up to you to seek out how much depth it has. So if you approach it like COD, then it'll play like COD. If you approach it like a predator and explore the levels and the suit, then it plays like nothing else.

Sorry but thats an first person RPG not a true FPS, classic game nevertheless but it had nothing on Crysis FPS elements.

First time I played that scene on an 8800GTS 320mb, I was like "Oh wait a second, that's the actual game, not a scripted cut scene!!"

People dogged Crysis to hell and back for being a poorly coded steaming pile for what, at least a year after launch? Funny how things change.

Crysis was the game changer for me. Crysis popped my single GPU cherry. It kicked my PC's ass and I retaliated. I suddenly had two flagship cards, a new CPU, MOBO, PSU, case, everthing. What year was that again? Ugh..

Even when NV released its new $650 GTX280 flagship the following year, Crysis just laughed at that card and squashed it like a bug.

I don't think that test was even run with everything on Enthusiast level either.

Even today Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead will make a $500 GPU sweat to get 60 fps.

One thing must be said though, Crysis had one of the best cpu physics engine avalaible and excellent graphics mods, modded is beyond eye candy.

yea, for a week after i got the game, anytime someone came over i was like "hey, come check this out" and i loaded up Contact. Then they said "holy balls" and proceeded to tell me i was crazy for owning a videocard that cost twice as much as their xbox.

back to the autoexec commands i posted above.
dx10 very high (defaults)

dx10 ultra (custom autoexec)

the custom conifig boasts
-significantly increased draw distance detail (check out the mountain in the distance)
-increased vegetation/foliage draw distance
-increased object draw distance
-more realistic shadows/lighting
-all the same god rays and particle effect

and 14.9 more FPS in this particular screen

the only thing that is missing is motion blur...

if your looking for higher FPS, that autoexec is the way to get them.

The gun in that pic looks like it's missing all the detail though (like a large black 2D image). I guess the game is a lot darker with your config file settings.

yea, the detail is there, its just quite a bit darker (more contrast, less washed out)

I disagree. Stalker had open-ended gameplay that you could progress in several different branches, and at your own timing. It also set a mood and an environment that could pull me into the game. Crysis, on the other hand, was as much a rail shooter as COD, and at no time did it manage to make me forget I'm playing a videogame.
