Really enjoying the demo and looks incredible in DX10. It's like playing a hyped up graphical version of Farcry without the annoying ultra-sharpshooting "never give up" enemies. I can already see that I'm going to abuse the stealth mode quite a lot

Just one glaring annoyance so far - there appears to be no "weight or bouncy" physics in the game with regards to objects being thrown. Everything seems to land with the same dull thud [without the thud noise] - as if the ground is made of clay. Boxes don't roll and bounce.. they just... land and stop.

WOW !

I just finished the Demo on the Normal difficulty and it was a BLAST ! I've never, ever experienced any first-person-shooter game like Crysis. It must be the very epitome of FPS gaming. I mean that game encompasses everything that developers have learned in FPS gaming throughout the years into a single game. The Demo alone, in my opinion, already beat the heck out of known FPS games.

The physics puts the Source engine to shame, and that's not saying little. The graphics are certainly the very best PC gaming has to offer to this day, even in DX9. The sounds are totally real, the textures (on High) are of near-reality looking (photo-realistic), the controls feel fluid, very precise at the same time, responding and to the point. The interface (suit/hud) is just what you need, it's not annoying to the eye, it has a very high-tech feeling. And the water guys ... the freakin' water in Crysis makes Bioshock's look ten years-old. The atmosphere of a breathing, living environment isn't equaled by any other games ...

I could go on and on and on ...

You can physically BEAT buildings down to shreds, you can shoot them too, you can grenade them, but in the end they're almost all destroyable (only the ones with tick concrete weren't destroyable, but the furniture inside is all destroyable). You can pick up barrels, sand sacks, chairs, tables, cans of food, you can pick up the roaming live animals around, you can even pick up the debris resulting of a destroyed object. I am still quite shocked by the quality of this product. To be honest I expected to be disappointed, because the multi-player mode did not impress me (expect for the graphics, but then I was wondering how would the game-play be like in single-player). But now, I am even more than merely impressed. I don't have much words to describe how rich and complex Crysis really is, but I believe that we've indeed reached a completely new generation of video-gaming.

All that was on my system below, in my signature, using the 163.76's (I've tried 169.01's, but I reverted back because they were causing issues to some of my other games, some of them quite old, but I still like them). I played at 1280x960, no AA, no AF, everything in-game set to "High", everything single option to that setting without exception. I could run constantly at around 35 to 45 frames-per-second, so I was quite satisfied by the performance too. The game seems to be quite optimized.

To conclude my reaction to this amazing game I'd like to point out at something I really thought would literally suck, which is the A.I. But, once more, Crysis delivers even within the A.I department. I played on the Normal difficulty, and already the Korean soldiers used cover very efficiently, they NEVER ever got stuck anywhere, even though they walked and crouched, and even ran on very difficult terrains. I even noticed and heard a group suddenly gathering up to one point after spotting me for a brief moment before I went back cloaked, and then one of them started to issue orders, such as "move to the right", and I clearly saw one of them responding to his orders and moving exactly as the higher ranked officer ordered him to, and the guy who was responding to his order said "cover me", and then another guy started to crouch behind him and they both "explored" the place slowly, crouched, searching for me. It was an amazing moment for A.I in FPS I think.

Overall, I can't think of anything else to say right now, other than perhaps that the story seems better than I first thought. It has some horror feeling to it, after the Demo's ending. It feels like the Alien threat is more serious than it looks to be at first glance. I just can't wait to play the final game, and even more importantly I can't wait to create my own levels with the amazing tools CryTek developed for it.

Personally, I give the Demo a 9.7 / 10 score. It's just almost perfect, almost, because nothing is ever actually perfect, I can't give it a perfect score. And who knows, perhaps later in the game something disappointing will occur, but I honestly doubt it. Right now I can look at my other FPS games on my desk, and now I look at them all very differently thinking "you guys are now inferior, sorry".

CryTek, you guys are genius, seriously.

Quite that yes !

I was just a little ... how can I say ... sick ? Yes, quite sick of the "always feels the same" FPS games that were released during the past years. I mean even FarCry back then did not really impress me, other than, of course, the graphics (but it's not just about graphics, is it ?).

Crysis, also, is a FPS game, so it should feel like all others before it, but the point is that I don't think it is. I mean Crysis, I'm pretty sure of it, could be fun and very playable even on a third person point of view. It feels gigantic (the environment is just IMPOSING itself upon the player, you can't just ignore how beautiful it is), it feels almost real. I had the feeling to play in a movie, anyone playing on High settings, anyone with a right mind will agree.

To this day only the Half-Life series made me proud to be a fan of FPS games, but now Crysis only solidifies that, it's more than just the icing on the cake. It's a completely new cake.

Yeah it is a superior product, The UI menus are precise and fast. The levels load at practically lightning speed. It is a very polished product and for sure GOTY and I'm very confident with that statement.

Whenever a menu loads in game, everything freezes for like 5 seconds. Like pressing C for my gun options. It's really ruining it for me.

I don't know if I'll have any money left over after I upgrade for this game. Still running a Pentium 930 and a 256MB 7950 GT (and XFX sent me that as a replacement for a bad 7900 GT). I need a new motherboard, a Q6600, and maybe an 8800GT.

I'll upgrade as well, but my current system can get the job done still. It ain't urgent, surely.

I will hold onto its capabilities for the next few months, and then, some time in early 2008 I will buy a Penryn, along with all other hardware with it of course, a full upgrade, even the monitor will be new (going from current CRT to an LCD, finally). I will also move to Vista with that future system, but right now I'll stick with XP, since Vista has tremendous issues with CRT's and refresh rates in 3D applications (they don't stick, always 60Hz, good for burning eyes).

I just finished the demo. Wow. I feel sorry for Halo 3 for two reasons:

1) It was king of the sci-fi shooters for less than a month.
2) Not only is it not king of shooters now, it's like a poor pauper compared to Crysis.

Man, I've been playing the demo for the last hour or so. It's AMAZING. It really opens up once you get out of the jungle and onto the beach. I just thought, "Hmmmm, I wonder if I can bypass this whole beach blockade by jumping across those huge rocks in the ocean?" And I could. It's AWESOME. Using the suit functions is very fun - a running jump with speed mode on sends you flying, and you swim like a dolphin underwater! Using Strength mode to jump is also incredibly cool, and it takes away recoil. And I love the weapon customization. Oh, and the enemy AI is good too. They actually snuck up on me!

It's kinda funny, though. The objectives go from "Nomad, get back to the LZ. This is getting weird." to "Nomad, take out that command post while you're here."

It's also incredibly beautiful even at the lowest settings (what I'm playing at. The water is INCREDIBLE. I love how the sun sets and rises throughout the mission too. I just want an 8800 GT!

I don't care what the campaign is like. I don't care what the multiplayer is like. I'm having the most fun I've ever had in any video game jumping out of the water in speed mode, switching to strength mode in midair, landing on a speeding boat and donkey punching the driver and gunner.

THIS GAME IS FOR THE WIN.

Not sure why you want an 8800GT. Don't get me wrong, they are very nice cards, but you are not going to be playing on very high with that card... My 8800GTS 640 @ 620/2000 is dissapointed in this game. Now, again, to be clear, I am not suggesting this game suchs on medium quality, because it looks great. But if you seen this thing on Very High on everything, it is so stunning you will be lusting for G9X SLI... I know I am. Too bad I can't do SLI with this board, but I am certainly shelling out HUGE cash when nVidia releases their next high end. The game in DX10 on high is just incredable.

On the medium setting I would say it looks better than the UT3 demo, I didn't try 'low' but I am sure that looks decent too. This engine IS impressive. Too bad it will take two gens from now to max out this game. That is good or bad depending on your viewpoint.

Well considering its price tag, the 8800GT is looking like the best option for a lot of folks. At least until newer cards come out. I mean, why spend $500 for a GTX now when the GT is half the price, and only a bit slower. Froogle links show the card should be selling for $230+.

eh, I wish I had noticed this earlier today. I'm going to be away from my main rig for a week and can't try it until I get back home.

Trying to play this game is like trying to play Farcry on my 9700Pro when it was first released. Even with my 7900GS overclocked to 900mhz on the ram, it's still slowdown city even on medium.

Anyone know if you can switch between DX9 and DX10 in Vista to see the performance and visual differences?

I see no option for it, what am I missing?

Anyone else check out the level in the sandbox editor? [Sandbox2 Installer, then open it up in the bin32 directory].

Arrow keys to move around, Hold SHIFT to move faster. Mouse to change directions.

I'm underwhelmed. The AI is braindead - I've seen them respond to me shooting at them from the jungle by looking at where my bullets hit. I've seen them get stuck by cliffs too.

Visually, it's pretty, but has the same problems far cry did too - extreme drop in (rocks that appear out of thin air at 20 feet, sticks that materialize at 5, and so on.). Takes a beautiful still and all, but in motion, the magically appearing everything jars the realism right out of it.

The physics and destructibility is nice though. Wonder if they'll keep to it, or become another case of "Destroy anything, except what you can't, for no reason other then we needed a barrier."

Any amount of thought on the dynamics of the suit is a clear no-no - it can highlight grenades in thick underbrush with no problem, but doesn't do anything to highlight the guy that threw it. And it's not like they don't have the tech to do so - the binoculars make enemies glow with an aura ala Aliens versus Predator.

The suit/gun menu is actually pretty workable, though it's still obviously a console design.

NKs take as many body shots to kill as it takes to kill me. They're wearing just plain old uniforms. Must have some kind of amazing cotton over in Korea, if it blocks like a cyborg super suit.

It really looks like they're going for the same "First you shoot soldiers in the jungle and have a good time, then we drop in ridiculous enemies." approach that worked Oh So Well in far cry, and never made anybody say the last 2/3s of the game was garbage.

Maybe I'll check again after it hits the $19.99 rack. I'm far too unimpressed to be willing to pay more then that.

While it's not a complaint against the game itself, I'd really just love to know who thought including all those FMVs was a good idea.

The FMV sucked and should have been an intro movie when the game loads, not when the campaign starts.

I did see the AI do some stupid stuff but I saw them hiding behind fences and trees to avoid my fire, shooting down my cover, and flushing me out with grenades much more.

Very very impressive game. I was definitely really disappointed when it ended, cannot wait to see what happens from here on out.

Game is definitely "new-gen" in a lot of ways. I swear the FOV feels zoomed out compared to the multiplayer beta though, I liked the multiplayer FOV for 1680x1050 better but minor detail

I actually like the multiplayer quite a bit, though I'm hoping to see larger levels with more of a BF2 like scale.

Now, what I found is if you go to your start menu and click where it says games and gives you a list of games, you can right click the Crysis SP demo in there and click "run in DX9". The performance boost is hefty, sometimes the FPS is double what it was in DX10. The game doesn't look inferior in DX9 but I know there are some small details gone if you use this mode (no option to use very high quality on anything). I just don't think DX10 is ready to be used at all right now. I'll take DX9 thanks.

DX10 = 15 - 30fps
DX9 = 20 - 40+fps (never more than about 45)

Everything on high no AA 1280x1024

DX9 is playable while DX10 is really not so playable when you are getting murdered.
