yeah I really hate the damage model.
I can understand someone might be wearing armor, but 7 shots in the chest ?
I too am getting tired of all the mutant and alien stuff.
Thats one of the things I hated about medal of honor , airborne.
It was a great game till towards the end when they started throwing these nazi soldiers with 500% health and amazing weapons.

Just give me some normal human enemies.

Has anyone played around the the sandbox editor? There's actually quite a bit of level left after the end of the demo at the ice ship. In fact, there are two extra NKs and a second alien (called a scout). I wonder if there is a way to edit the map so that the game DOESN'T end at that point.

Anyone else with X-fi soundcards with Vista get stuttering sound?? It doesn't stutter all the time but its noticeable when it happens. The sound settings menu is barebones and I wonder what kind of performance hit the sound causes.

anyone know how to run a demo and check your framerate? I'm dualbooting vista and xp and I'd like to run a comparison between the two.

The game is a blast but if you really want to have some fun go into the sandbox editor, add a helicopter and/or some of the other weapons, and then go into game mode in the editor. You can jump into the helicopter and fly around the island, or use the sniper rifle and some of the other weapons to take out the Koreans. The helicopter flight doesn't last too long if a ship or jet sees you. You'll be shot down. But it's great while it lasts.

You can probably add the helicopter or weapons to the gameplay (Island) map but I haven't tried that yet since I'm not familiar enough with the sandbox editor. Might try that next.

Cool demo. I can get it playable at 1680x1050 with everything on High, with 16x AF and 4x AA, and it doesnt run too bad. Running an 8800GTX at 674/2200, Q6600 at 3Ghz, and 4Gb of memory under vista 64.

I was hoping for more blood and gore. It prolly would have been banned in Germany if it was bloodier. That's the good thing about the editor though, blood and gore mods will be ready when the game is released

Well I guess I will chime in here...running XP, Opteron 165 (270x9@2.43Ghz), 2GB RAM, x1900 (stock speeds), Mitsubishi 2070SB (22 in. CRT).

By default, the game set itself to 1024x768, everything on medium, no AA. I set AA to 2x and turned everything on high. As expected, it didn't play well. I would estimate frames in the mid-teens at best. So I turned off AA and set physics, shadows and water to medium. At these settings the game became playable and still looked very good except for the low resolution. 1024x768 on a 20 inch (viewable) monitor with no AA just doesn't cut it for me.

Game play was fine. Hard to put my finger on any one thing, I would just say the game overall seems to very well done and even.

I am kind of surprised a demo was released. EA/Crysis had to know that a percentage of people would play it, be put off by the hardware requirements, and give it a pass for now. Which is what I plan to do. My current rig is just not up to running this game with the frame rates to which I have become accustomed.

X-Fi Xtreme music here with Vista 64, im having no sound stuttering issues with the game at all.
Im using an older 2.13 driver for my X-Fi though because the latest drivers on Creatives site give me random "static" from the card when i hit the desktop on startup sometimes. (ive read thats an x-fi with 4gb ram problem)

I would think that stuttering sound in Crysis could just be from running the settings too high, id try lowering the graphics settings and seeing if the problem goes away.

I too agree that the damage is a little off. It would have been cooler if the NK's had more realistic body damage, which would have been more consistent with the feel of the game. (ie, more realistic graphics, physics damage, foliage movement).

They actually really need to fix that IMO. Leave the uberpower to the aliens

Used the provided CPU and GPU benchmarks. Only included one run because runs 2, 3, and 4 were identical. IIRC, 1024x768, all details on low except texture, shader, and object on medium. Opteron 165 @ 2.7ghz, 2GB, 7800GT @ 445/1070, XP.

Almost no change. Actually more of a drop, but not significant. Though with the CPU demo, using the new beta drivers dropped the minimum FPS by 2! I'm not gonna bother to switch back though. Would've liked to see some improvement with this "special Crysis" driver. Although when I played through with the old drivers, I got a nasty 5-10 second pause several times. It almost felt like it froze up but it always came back after a while. It didn't seem to coincide with heavy action or low FPS... just paused completely several times every 10-15 minutes. So hopefully the new driver fixed that, but I haven't tried it yet (didn't ever pause like that with the benchmarks).

Also, 2GB of RAM seems to be perfectly fine for me. Any slowdowns I had were definitely from the CPU or GPU... I noticed no swapping or obvious signs of low memory.

Hey, I found how to create Zero G environments:
Alright, go into your editor.

In the create tab on the right, click Entity.
Open the folder called Physics, and double click on Gravity Sphere.
Place the sphere wherever you want to.
Now, set it's parameters to this:
Damping 1
Radius 5000
Falloff: x 5 y 5 z 5
Gravity: x -5 y 5 z 5
Now, drop into the game at the place where you land after the HALO jump, and have fun playing the Island level in Zero Gravity. smile
NOTE: NPCs just kind of run around in the air like they would on land, but you float. Hit F1 to go into third person; it's cool.

Just for the fun of the AA.....

I played the game beautifully @ 1024x768 with everything set to "High" and with 4x AA.
Frames were like 28-51 and averaged about 37.

With the AA on (disregarding the low res), it looked just like the Crytek videos that were released so long ago.

All that on MY RIG!!!

I think it was designed to eliminate some issues with texture corruption or something similar to that rather than performance.

On my monitor I don't think that 1024x768 looks all that great. I will try it though and see what happens.

edit: just tried it at 1024x768 and the game looked horrible. Tried 4x AA and it is very similar to 1280x1024 but for some reason I cannot see the red dot in the reflex sites. The performance at 1280x1024 and 1024x768 + 4xAA is the same.

I would play it... if the demo actually gave me sound. Terrible support if it can't handle an Audigy 2 ZS, which is pretty pathetic for a new game.

EDIT: Read around and people are having issues with the same sound card. Sigh.

I'm playing with an Audigy 2 on Vista perfectly fine.

For XP, try the youp-pax drivers. Much better than the creative drivers.
