CS Lag problem...

I've been playing CS fine for a long time with my Radeon 8500. I was getting anywhere from a 20-50 ping. I recently reinstalled CS, and now I get huge ass lagspikes EVERYWHERE I go! It will remain at around 30 for a few secs, then jump to about 300, making the game unplayable.. What could POSSIBLY be causing this?

cs 1.4 is known for having many problems, including lag spikes, high pings etc...
same problem for me.

hopefully, the new cs 1.5 coming out pretty soon will fix these problems.
