Curling

So basically curling is inaudible yelling and using a broom to get a boulder down ice?

What's the point?

Curling seems like the most pointless event.

That's what happens to lots of people who watch it. It's one of these things that really shouldn't be intereresting at all and yet you just can't stop watching it.

I've been watching all morning, very interesting if you know the rules a bit and have seen or have actually played it yourself.

Its actually one of only a few Olympic sports along with hockey that is watchable. It may not be the most exciting but at least it has clear objectives (get the stone on the bulls eye) and its easy enough to follow along with what is happening.

I love watching curling, look at them plan a shot and when it turns out exactly as planned. Especially the ones that are crazy like curve at this spot turn charply to take out stones that were protected.

Would never play it since I would skewer myself with the broom.

Anothing I like about it is, players police themselves. So if they break a rule and they noticed, they will tell the other team.

this! and i read a little about the history of curling. one of the traditions is the winning team is supposed to buy the losing team a beer! How can you not like a sport where you get beer if you lose!?

in curling NOBODY loses! free beer!

I think it would be a lot more interesting if everyone drinks a lot of beer before they play.

"It's like shuffleboard on ice, but you throw a rock and two guys change its direction with a broom without touching it."

And to answer the earlier question, I would MUCH rather watch curling than ice dancing.

Curling is an incredibly boring sport but those who do it are really hardcore about it.

People only watch the winter Olympics for two things anyway: figure skating and hockey. The rest is really just filler.

The shooting part is not easy when your heart is pumping like crazy.

NO Olympic event is easy. If they were easy, they wouldn't be Olympic events. But I still contend that biathlon is an unusual pairing of skills.

I LOVE downhill, probably because it's one of the few winter events I can relate to. As a southerner, I've ice skated like twice in my life, never played hockey and only watched a few games. I'll never do ski jump, never bobsled, etc.

But I love snow skiing and love skiing as fast as I can when it's safe, but those guys and gals take it to such incredible levels. So exhilarating to watch.

I watch it on occasion if it happens to be on (I prefer Women's curling too since there are some cute curlers out there), but it is way more fun to play than to watch.

It's like bowling, yard darts, house chores, and winter rolled into one.
