I had ordered a Tj07, but canceled the order before it was shipped out because my mod project got pushed back a few months and didn't want to to be stuck with a case I couldn't use until then

The more I think about it the more modding I want to do to my case, only problem I don't have many tools and don't want to risk a $300 case with my less than stellar tool/paint work. I don't think any amount of patients and time on my part would really end with great results. I might be able to pull off decent, but decent sucks when you're investing a lot of money into a case. I will be doing some drilling inside to make places to mount my water cooling parts and some light physical mods. But the rest of the stuff is out of my league.

I know I could buy a case and find a machine shop to do some of the work, but is there any computer place online that does custom work? I have all the ideas for what I want to do, and if I could find a geek place who understands computers it would probably be a lot easier then taking it to a body shop somewhere and trying to make someone who isn't a nerd understand what I want to do.

what I'm wanting to do

paint inside black, it's aluminum and most people are saying "don't try this it's a bitch to paint"

custom side window, I know Silverstone has a windowed model, but the window's on the wrong side (going to flip the MB tray) could do it myself with the non windowed version but again, I wouldn't get the results with any Home Depot tool a person with a water jet could.

top window, where the mesh is now (on a tj07)

panel between bottom compartment and rest of the case, has too many holes now, would like something solid with just a few holes for the tubing and a few small vent ones.

this is just too ambitious for me, doing all the WC part will be plenty of a task for me. Anyone know of a shop online? I know this is going to cost me (if I even find it) but the extra $$$ would be worth it so I can have good results and not a "OMGWTFBBQ! that Tj07 looks like POO!" lol

thanks.

performance-pcs.com contact a person named hank.

He's the owner. Tell him exactly what your interested in, and he'll make it happen. I believe he has access to a laser even if you want that fine precision laser cut.

Another option is buy the case without the window and come back to me. I'll refer you to some people on XS forums, whose work is top quality and could easily do it for you for a fair price.

Ohhh a name, you rock I was really starting to get jittery about power tools to a case with my experience level. Not sure if I want, or need a laser cut, but I want it to look clean and professional, with the window on the inside and no rivets/screws/holes showing from the outside. I will definitely contact Hank (when I'm ready to take this plung) I'm already bracing myself for the total cost lol.

wow looks like a professional company...

but would they do a small job such as cut out a window on a side panel?

Quebert:

Get an apraisal from everyone b4 you decide on who you want to go with. Also make sure you come back to me and ask for some recomendations on XS members who can also do your job for you. I know a few top notich builders, 2 of whom i have already employed to do some jobs on custom fabrications. They will charge you whats fair, and yes its fair. And sometimes give you a discount if something you request looks like a lot fun...

Also hank sells the TJ-07B. You can probably work a deal out with him where he does all the case mods on the case, and mails you the completed item ready to stuff. The shiping charges might be killer, last time i checked the shipping on the case is near 40-50 dollars. Directron had with shipping for under 300.

Shipping is fine, I was expecting to drop a ton on this project even before I decided to outsource the more complex case mods I wanted done. An extra $50 isn't going to make of break me. looking on Performance-PC's they charge 50 bucks to sleeve internal wires. Something I'd do myself, but it gives me a good idea not to expect them to do my entire case for $150 over the cost of the case I will ask around on XS forums, quality is my main concern. I plan to keep this rig, at least the case for a long time. Directron with the shipping is a great price, but if I'm just going to turn around and Fedex it to somebody else to do the work, it'll end up being a dumb idea. In fact I'm heading over to the XS forums right now to sign up for an account and see what kind of responses I get to my request.

Your post today OP got me thinking a little. OH No!

So I started working on details of a case I am going to have the company I linked to Proto type for me.

I really don't have a program on any of my home computers to do it. So its really giving me a hard time . I can't use my drafting table as I just can't manage it anymore .

So it looks like it well take a little longer to draft out the design than I was hoping. But should manage a good ruff draft tomorrow. Than I can give it to my daughter to do a pro draft. As she has the software to do it. Than I will send it. When I get the parts back I will show a step by step Pics of the operation. I owe at least that to this board.

I will try to patent this design if possiable so no company can use it . But will freely give to this board.

I actually like using paint for rought drafts. I've had a couple professional architechts and drafters laugh at me when mentioning this, till they try it. With the pixel level accuracy and measuring built right in, it actually works decent, for a rough draft only though.

I'd offer my services but, I've been out of comission for over a month and I'm backed up with about 3 months of projects. Let us know when you get around to it though and I'll see if I've got any openings in my schedule. I don't weld but, i could do just about everything on that list. I'd probably sub-contract the paint or powdercoating for the interior though.

I'm broke right now so the project is just in the planning stage for now, but I'm going to be un broke soon hopefully. I'll contact you, keeping the project in the AT family would be nice. I'll even fire up MSPaint and make some drawings of what I want for you

Paint is a nice tool I use it a little. Tux paint is a nice tool also.

But Google Sketchup is better for what were discussing and I got it free.

"Broke" is the wrong place to be for paying someone labor to mod a case. Depending on how ambitious your plans are, can be pretty easy to end up spending a few hundred extra dollars on the labor and misc parts needed.

I'm broke today, but people do get paid man, I don't plan top stay broke. If I did I wouldn't be planning on buying a $300 case and having work done. I'm just in the planning stage right now any ways I need to really sit down and come up with what I want done, and of that what I'd be able to do on my own and what I'll be better out sourcing. The tools needed to do some of the stuff I'm after would probably end up costing more to buy then to have somebody else do it. If I'm only planning to do this one case it wouldn't make sense to invest hundreds in tools and paint only to never use them again.

I'm sure getting it powercoated black inside will be like $150'ish alone. I'll be ready to drop $600 on this, that's what I'm guessing everything I want done will end up running with the cost of the case.

goto performance-pcs.com

press contact. ask hank all you want done on the TJ-07 with a price for it.

That way you can start assuming prices on stuff.

Dont assume off bat.

I got a few quotes, Hank told me to call and speak to a James going to do that shortly.

MNPCTECH emailed me back saying they don't do milling but will powercoat the silver parts for $175 including disasembly, $125 for both custom windows. Even if these are good prices I don't think I'd use them, they don't mill and if I have to ship the heavy ass case 2 places the shipping would get pretty outrageous. I got about a month till I'll have the scratch saved up to jump on this so plenty of time to find the right man/company to do this job.

Martin is a mill/block person. For large products you dont need a mill. It would be funny if they used a mill to punch out a side pannel hole.

CyberDruid is the person i refered him. His work is absolutely speechless.

seen some of his work over there, good stuff. QB has said something about milling so I wasn't sure what all he was going to want milled. I assumed some aluminum for the front...

I never mentioned milling at all, the guy who emailed me said they didn't do it, maybe I can do without a fancy front panel if it's going to be a problem or drive the price up. I downloaded Google SketchUp and oddly enough found a TJ07 model, I'm going to mess with it and see what I can come up with.

wow, don't know where my heads been lately. Have you ever been so continuously tired for so long that everything just starts to blend together till you can't tell your @$$ from a hole in the ground. I'll have to download Google SketchUp tomorrow and play with it.
