CX430 with 7970 GHz edition +4670K?

Do you guys think the CX430 is enough to power both a 4670K and a 7970 GHz edition along with a 4GHz overclock on the CPU?

Seems a little too close for comfort. Estimate around 150W under load for the CPU, and upwards of 250W for the GPU (300W TDP).

I'm wondering if the CX430 is enough to power a 7950 and a i5 3470 with no OCing.

Using some psu calculators on the web, it's cutting close, but it tells me I still have a little bit of headroom. I just don't know how that translates in the real world. The CX430 does have an 8 pin and a molex to 6 pin adapter for the GPU.

What about no overclock on the CPU?

I have heard of people having trouble with CX series units when trying to push them for more juice than what the default cables allow. I wouldn't use a molex-> PCIe adapter with a CX430...

I would also not buy a 7970 GHz. What's the point? Just buy a 7970 (or even a 7950) and overclock that. Or wait for the 280X. Should leave you with enough money to upgrade your power supply at the same time.

Yea I went ahead and ordered the TX650. The fact that there was question there was enough to push me to go ahead and upgrade from the cx430. And for $50 AR I don't feel bad about it at all

I used a i5 3570+GTX670+H61d2b3+4GigRam+HDD+DVD in a 400w power supply(HCG-400). since i use no more components my power draw was ok, i could even put an HD7970 Here. Since CX430 have close to the same +12V rail power, i recommend you to buy another power supply to power this config. With a 500W power supply you will able to power up to a GTX Titan.

Should be Ok.

100W for CPU at 4.0Ghz
228W for 7970 GE.
Another 20W for peripherals and you probably max out at ~ 350W.

Those CX430 are decent psu's and in Hardwaresecrets review they pulled the full 430 watts no problem and they managed 548.8w before the psu shut down.

no doubt it will "work" but its a stupid thing to do especially long term. its only rated for 384 watts on the 12v rail where 90-95% of the power needs to come from. and overclocking is just asking for trouble at some point. the CX430 is a lower end psu with a lower price tag for a reason. cheaper internals with its power rating at 30 C should tell you its not really made for powering a somewhat higher end gaming pc that will push it hard.
