OK - I've got a few accounts with them, and they seem like a good deal. I don't know how long this special will continue, but they NOW have Lifetime accounts (I can only assume you pay once, and it lasts either your or their life) starting at a measly $15.00...

Here's the link - See for yourself <=- *Dead* (at least for the moment! * See update below)

If you're looking for bang for your buck --- start here. Doesn't seem to take much buck to get a good bang.

Apparently, just for giggles they're also throwing in tripling bandwidth and storage.

PS - I predict the beginning of an emotional thread.

--------------- UPDATED MORNING OF 6-25-02

Oh boy oh, boy! --- FTP wasn't working, the web wasn't working, no response to pings !!!!!!!!!

In the Cyberwings CHAT channel, the support guys are saying there's a problem with their "upstream provider" --- and they claim data going to the servers (like e-mails) is OK. No word (as of 11:00AM PST) to when service will be restored.

--------------- UPDATED AFTERNOON OF 06-25-02

OK, I'm up and working again --- not sure how long the thing was down.... But I'm back -- and I'm happy

These guys owe me a $50 refund, their "ceo" exchanged emails with me then just stopped. I've tried emailing them & him many times to no avail. Avoid these people. Been trying for over two weeks now.

I want all my money back, period.

From reading recent posts, their e-mail is not functioning. Try the help desk.

as many happy customers as these people have, you can count me in the unhappy customer pile. Web hosting is, or should be, all about reliability. The business model these people apparently are running is very similar to gambling(with your money and services). They are offering something they can't provide in the hopes not everyone will use everything they buy(this is just how some people explain it to me, maybe this isn't there business model, but if anyone can explain how they ever hope to make money I'd love to hear it). Sometimes the sites I have with them are very fast, other times they are very very slow to the point of not functioning. This might be fine for some, but for new sights like mine you usually only get one shot at attracting people and if the site doesn't work you'll have a hard time luring them back. I already know where I'm moving my sights once cyberwings becomes more flaky after they cram even more people on each server, and am now just using it temporaril. I am hosting sites for other people and feel like they are counting on me for a reliability that cyberwings can't provide(yes I filled out a help desk ticket saying how it was very flaky and sometimes I coudn't connect. Their response was, "It's working now"). All you people who are going to flame me saying you've had 100% uptime, well congratulations for you, I haven't, or maybe it's been up and just too bogged down to connect. $15 lifetime accounts are too good to be real(and therefore probably are) and if you want my not-even-close-to expert opinion, I think these people have overinvested in a company that won't make money and now they're just trying to raise the capital to ditch it and run away to fiji. I say stop the stupid cyberwings sales threads. Everyone who's been on here at any point in the last month knows about them. Either that or start a perpetual "This is the final cyberwings sale, no wait we mean it this time, except on days that have a vowel in the middle or on weeks that start with Sunday." I say sign on to cyberwings if you want cheap and don't need high reliability(as in reliably fast, the sites are probably always up, they're just too lagged to connect to), but if you're looking to have any kind of professional site I'd pay for real hosting.

It is like an ISP. Do you think they have one modem for each customer? Do you think CW can provide all of that bandwidth? Of course not, but they are figuring they won't need to either. Just like a good ISP, you might get a busy signal every now and then, your web site may be slow or down. Just not very often.

Obviously, you get what you pay for-if you come in with the understanding that you will be one of many and that they are currently overlogged with accounts, if you look at the message board or in the chatroom and see that shawn has given up his email account because he was getting 500+ emails a day on it from cyberwings customers and has moved to a helpdesk system (which has worked for me) then you'll be ok. THe small individual and AYW accounts are based on computers with hundreds and hundreds of accounts, the reseller accounts are more secure. for 150-250 dollars you can get an amount of hosting for a lifetime that it would normall cost you for a month or two.
In short-cyberwings is an awesome deal-just keep in mind what you're doing!!!

Exactly what part of "they are obviously doing everything they can to sign up as many people as possible and make as much money as they can as fast as they can because there is no way that they can afford their bandwidth bill when they are only charging $15 a lifetime" don't you understand?

shoot, retrieving e-mail has been horrible the last two days. I guess I can't complain for $3.95 tho.

You can get some quality hosting with one of the largest and better known, starting at 4$ / month for something like 100MB space at Pair Networks.

Been with them since 4 years, they're excellent!

Bash all you want, I got in on the $4.95/year plan and it's been AWESOME. 99.9% uptime, fast....the best deal I've gotten in webhosting in 15 years.

badthad: No one is arguing it isn't awesome NOW. The issue is what happens when they have to pay their datacenter next month, but suddenly they aren't signing up 500 people a month?

Something tells me a "lifetime" could pass pretty fast with these guys...

$4.95 a year, or for however long they're up. 99.9% uptime? Now you're smoking something from the special side of the farm. Unless you're using site monitoring software you have no idea what their uptime is. They claim their "guarantee" is 98%, which is equal to 7+ down days annually. Many have experienced spotty service and email outages lasting days.

I can't access my site now because of their upstream problem. They're blaming it on their upstream provider, but since they claim 98% uptime, they should have some more control over things like this.

Guys

You get what you pay. Most of the times we pay less here at AT hotdeals but... 3.95 for a year or lifetime for 15? man.. do you think I was born yesterday?

I understand you have no facts or proof to substantiate that claim. And before you start jumping all over me, I'm not saying they will be around forever, but to say that, you should at least try to back it up.

doesnt bother me. I wouldnt sink $100 into this place but $15? Or even the $4/year I paid? Who cares if they went under, if they even host it for a month i got money's worth.
