Damn You Arnold!

While reading about the propsed budget put forth by Governor Schwarzeneggar, I noticed that there is another fee hike for Community Colleges!! This time last year, it cost $11 per unit to attend JC in California. Gray Davis put the fees up to $18/unit and now if this passes through the legislature, I will be paying $26/unit! Grrrrr... The upcoming semester cost me $270 in tuition. Last year it would have cost $165. Next year it will cost $390.

Who can I write to express my opposal to this action? I am fully aware that my letter will have little effect on the outcome, but I still want to take advantage of my civil liberites and make my opinions known. Should I just write my congressman?

The frustrating part is that it seemed like most of the cuts targeted the low/middle class people. I didn't see any cuts that affect the wealthy people in the state.

More like everybody until the budget evens out. He does what he has too in a budget crisis. Can't expect improvement until it blows over.

You do realize that both the before price and after price is HEAVILY subsidized by taxes as it is, right???

How about you just pay the entire bill, instead of saddling tax payers with the vast majority of your education bill?

I realize it's cheap, dont get me wrong. I never said it was unaffordable either. Just expressing my disdain at this action. Funny to see how angry so many people go over the VLF fiasco which was a one time yearly increase of $100-200 in most cases, but yet JC tuition doubling gets no love.

The only way it really affects me is that is costs more. I hope that his doesnt cause those who can barely afford the expense as it is, to miss out on their education.

Last time I took any classes at a community college (~2 years ago) I was paying ~$45 per credit hour.

They rarely tax the entrepreneurs (due to the fact they keep the middle class employeed) more than the middle class. The pay increase effects all, except the rich don't need to complain.

Contrary to popular belief it is not the job of the state to subsidize the education of its citizens.

i pay $17,500 a semester thats for 4 classes so thats $4,375 a course. 1 course = 1 credit

o the loanes i am going to be paying back starting next year

Attack on the middle class???

Subsidizing your education is the attack, not the act of making you pay more for it. Education is financed largely through property taxes. NO class is exempt from property taxes unless they live in public housing.

So even those little old ladies renting a one room apartment on their pension checks are paying for your education through the property taxes they pay that is included in their rent.

Last year tuition alone cost me ~$8000. This year I'll be looking at about ~$8500 plus books and fees of course. You got it good at $26 a unit!

Yes, they are, but not nearly as much as community colleges. They get most of their funding from tuitions. It is the other way around for CCs.

Agreed I'm paying roughly $187 per credit hour this semester.
