I wanted a new Dell XPS 15 with the 1080p display, but the display is no longer available due to supply challenges. I then turned to the HP Envy 14, but the Radiance display has also vanished as an upgrade.

What are my remaining options? This machine will replace an IBM T40p from 2003, so I'm after quality, performance, and longevity. What's left?

Frustrated.

How much are you willing to spend?

The Macbook Pro 15" has a higher resolution screen as an option, though it's about $1800 altogether. The Macbook Air 13" also has a higher resolution panel, and that's only $1200ish.

If you want one of the best notebook screens money can buy, some HP Elitebook models offer the option to upgrade to their DreamColor 2 panel, which is about the best out there. It's VERY pricey, though.

If you are looking to replace a Thinkpad then nothing other than another Thinkpad could truly replace it IMHO. If you have decided that you don't need an optical drive and would rather trade about 2" of display diagonal for a 2lb weight savings then either Thinkpad X-series or Macbook Air are good choices. The Air actually wins on display, battery life and even price.

Otherwise, personally I would look into the bigger Air and the T410s. Macbook Pros are WAY too heavy IMHO.

Judging by your choice of a T series I assume weight is an important factor.

How does the Air win on price versus an X201?

The 1080p display reappeared on the L501x so I bought one. Great unit so far.
