Dead Hard Drive Help

Alright guys. I'm in a dilemna as my hard drive isn't working correctly anymore. I had used it as a storage device and threw it into an external hard drive enclosure. However, it has stopped working. It'll come up on my windows, but it won't recognize anything, and tells me that the drive needs to be formatted. Is there any way to fix this. It's under warranty, but i want to retrieve data off of it before I RMA it. If i format it, and try a data recovery program, would that work? It's a Seagate 300 GB SATA drive btw. Thanks.

well, you can try using http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ to see if the drives fine and if there is anything salvageable on it.

Don't format. Try GetDataBack and see if it can recover anything.

Bump. I tried GetDataBack, and the drive shows up in the windows xp/vista, but it doesn't show up in getdataback. When i try to access the drive in vista/xp, it wants me to format it, however my data is still on there, I hope.

Hey can I piggyback?

I have similar issue with laptop. WinXP pro, had a crash and now I can't access the drive. I try WinXP repair and it shows the disk as unallocated space. Ultimate boot disk can't see the drive. Tried a USB enclsure and the drivers load but no drive letter is allocated - device manager shows disk working properly.

I'm pretty much out of ideas and really, really want to get the data off before formatting etc. Since the WinXP install disk can't seem to read the disk, I can't even do a repair.

Any suggestions?
