Dead motherboard?

Have an Asrock Z68 Pro3-M paired up with an i7-2600k that ran well for years in my business (audio and video editing). A while ago, my kids popped in a newer graphics card (GTX 1050) and the thing was working great as a gaming machine for them.

Today we went to turn it on and nothing comes on the screen. No beeps, doesn't look like any SSD or HD activity based on the front panel lights. The fans come on and the HD spins up, but no posting, the USB ports don't seem to supply any power to the mouse/keyboard.

Removed the new graphics card to try on-board graphics and it won't output anything either. Tried another Seasonic power supply that was around and it didn't make a difference.

Right conclusion that the motherboard is fried?

If you were me, would you try to sell the i7-2600k ($120 ish on ebay) and build something else, or try to get another LGA1155 motherboard and build it back? It'll be used for gaming. I can reuse the SSD, power supply, and a few other things.

Thanks for your guidance. Sean

That's possible, and I'm curious if the cable was the right hole in the sieve of possibles. Otherwise, since I have three Z68 systems and went through this cycle of finding a surplus or refurb corporate IT recycle back in 2014, I'll look again . . hmmm . . . .

. . . This was one of the cheaper offerings I found at Amazon:

Intel Z77 ATX

You could also look for a Z68 board. I took a look at Ascendtech.com, and they only have HP and Dell boards for socket-1155, and not sure which of those are "Z" for "K" chips -- either Z68 or Z77.

I'm pretty sure a Z77 chipset will accommodate a Sandy Bridge processor. . . . Umm . . . rechecking . . . yeah-- that works. In fact, I tried it with a 2700K processor in an ASUS Z77-A motherboard, now that I remember . . .

Personally, if you could get a decent Z77 or Z68 refurb or used board with all features working properly for approximately <= $100, I could see it making sense. If the boards available cost $200 and higher, I'd just sell the processor and RAM.
