its not completely full. currently the playlist is 79 days long with a little over 20,000 songs all ripped from CDs or purchased legally (but not all by me obviously). i made a point to have no illegal music on there incase there was some sort of issue. i realize, however, that it probably isnt legal to copy them and share it, but its better IMO than just downloading it from a P2P program.

all music gets ripped from cds... so using your criteria anything you dl is legal?

At graduation or pending graduation, are the MP3's distributed back to the owner of the original CD, deleted, or do you get to keep them since it's your server?

I think we know what the answer is.

people from around here that actually own the CD and paid for it come to my room and rip it to the computer. there is a huge difference between doing that and downloading it from someone else and mass distributing it.

What is the "huge" difference? Your logic is flawed.

any client on the network that has iTunes installed can share their songs and view everyone elses songs. you cant download from them though, only listen to it. the actual iTunes program has this same feature...you can go to the new song section and listen to the newest songs without downloading them.

you can download a program called ourtunes that is a homebrew application made to steal music from iTunes users. it was blocked on our network though...i made sure of that before i set this up.
