the direct link to the free file turbotax program is http://www.taxfreedom.com/ I just used it an hour ago. Federal filing was free but I believe you have to pay to file state taxes, not sure since I don't pay state taxes.

TurboTax Basic at Sams Club, $18 no rebates. They also have deluxe. Forget how much that was.

Actaully State is free too, but only in a handful of states:

http://www.statetaxfreedom.com/

Mine (VA) isn't listed, but they DO have their own electronic filing system. I have to retype everything, but it saves $10...

Edit: Opps - looks like you also have to make under $35K a year or be in the military.

Yep, efiling state isn't free (for me in CA) with TT, so I send it USPS.

Edit: Checking out costco.com I'm appalled to see they are charging $8.19 for "shipping and handling" ("Standard" shipping). Seems excessive to me. Think I'll drive over there.... It's 5-6 miles.

Edit2: I made it over to Costco and snagged my TT (almost forgot!). They had TT state (CA), and I wondered if I should buy it. It was $25. State is supposed to be free after rebates and looking at the TT Federal box it says you can buy retail or download and get your $ back either way by MIR. So, I figured, why not just download it and same some rubbish in the dump?

That seems almost too good to be true. How is the software selling for $20+ and then on the web its free? Has anyone completed a return to make sure they don't charge at the end?

The TurboTax box I picked up at Costco says "free state" on it, not that I need it for Texas. Also when did Costco start doing their rebates 100% online? Very cool, don't ever have to mail anything in.

Check your bank or credit union website-they often have discounts for online TT filing.

I used it yesterday to file, and the federal return was free, the California State return cost me $19.95 to file. Still a good deal for me. The returns are now filed, and the refunds will be direct deposited into our bank account.

Last year I did the same (cost me $9.95 to file the Fed and $9.95 to file State returns), and received the refunds approximately 5 weeks after filing.

For those of you who bought TT, is there any mention of a rebate if you e-file? The last couple of years, there was a coupon that you filled in your conformation number and mailed it in for like $10.

He beat me to it...this is what I did this year. You just link to it from the IRS site, and it costs nothing to efile Federal taxes. I should have my tax return direct deposited in two weeks or so.

The free ones I see have income limits. Does anyone see free filing on there without income limits??

Yes, they're doing it again this year.
