Oh sorry, I was talking about prince of persia

That came out 12/2 - which had a full month to sell copies (+ a 5-week month, + a big holiday sales month), and it didn't break 400K units.

NPD doesn't report numbers on such low sellers, but estimates are around the 300K mark. Probably ~1 million copies sold over its lifetime if it's lucky.

Ya, that's what surprised me. I would've guessed to see it in the overall top 10, not barely breaking into the top 10 for the 360 alone.

Wow I'm shocked it didn't do better. I know there were tons and tons of games this fall, it could get mixed in, but I thought it would be at the top of the pile for sure.

I don't think bundling a year of Live is the solution, either. If they want to compete with PSN on the price front (I'm not sure they need to), XBL needs to be completely free if they're going to bother with it at all. Otherwise you'll still see Sony slapping in the usual "multiplayer = $50" in the comparison charts.

OTOH, bundling a "lifetime supply of Live" with new consoles could be pretty compelling. It'd piss off the old crowd, but then again, they've done that before with HDMI, so I wouldn't rule it out. Maybe just on the Elites, existing and new? That would be an interesting way to push the higher margin SKU, but I don't think it would replace price drops at all.

Now, a good cheap way for Microsoft or Sony to increase value at minimum cost to them? Bundle an HDMI cable, and then tell the world that they're getting a $80 cable for free!

I'm so glad Prince of Persia is sucking on the sales charts. They dumbed that fucking game down so much it practically plays itself.

There's room in the industry for games like that IMO.

I don't agree. Yeah it's pretty dang easy but at the same time it's pretty dang fun. I know a lot of people hated how you can't die, and that Eleka saves you if you fall off a cliff or something but I have no problem with that. How is that any different than if you fall off a cliff, a screen comes up and says "You're dead, want to retry?" and you start back up at a checkpoint. She's pretty much just a checkpoint.

I really liked the game and I hope it did well enough for a 2nd

But a big pro-PS3 argument has been "free online play". I don't see why Microsoft wouldn't bundle a new console with "free online play..... for a year" to stay competitive.

Especially when they are making a pretty substantial profit on Live as compared to hardware.

Your second paragraph answers the first. They make a tidy sum from Live subs, and the fact that they charge for online multiplayer isn't hurting them in sales whatsoever compared to the PS3.

How does it?

Everyone who buys a 360 does not have a Live account. Everyone who has a Live account already has a 360.

This is not necessarily true. MS has bunched up alot of their services together so the same Live ID is used for people who have Zunes (for the social), as well as the people who signed up for MS cashback.

The price is just killing the PS3, killing it dead. People can't just shell out $400 in this economic environment. Something sure needs to change if they want to sell more units.

I really wonder why Sony doesn't seem to realize this.

They cared more about their margins this holiday season than sales, if they're even at break even yet on unit cost.

Sony will eventually drop it sometime this year...the big question is, will MS drop the 360 even lower than it's at now? (Which I suspect, they definitely will)

This.

usually when yo udie in games you don't start right where you feel off at a cliff. there is no risk/reward in prince of persia because you have 0 risk.

also by "playing itself" i think he means how the game handles itselt when pouncing around the caves and what not. i mean you pretty much have to just press A or B every now and then, and you can get from point to point in that game. it's almost like a game full of long portions of quick time events.

So when is Nintendo going to activate the mind control devices planted in every DS?
