Decent, cheap vid card??

Upgrading a friends system. Working on a budget and only have $45 left after buying essentials (motherboard, RAM, and CPU) so I'm not looking for anything "speedy" or fancy...just something that will work for basic gaming and running office apps. Anybody got any suggestions to help narrow this down??

I think the best you could do right now, with only $45, is to get a used Voodoo 3 2K from the for sale/trade forum. You can pick it up for about that price, and it will overclock probably to 166/166 fairly easily. If you could scrounge around $40 more, you could get the Radeon DDR LE which will give VERY good performance.

Another vote for the Voodoo 3. You might be stretched to find one costing $45 but if you do find one, it'll be well worth it.

You can pick up a used TNT2 or TNT2 Ultra for about $50 here. That's a great card for the money.

First off let me say, with only $45, you probably shouldnt be gaming anyways. Seriously, Online gaming is an expensive hobby man. You need cash, or its just like playing with a 14.4 modem, pointless. You wont have fun or be able to compete. Now for a office use like photoshop or office200 etc...etc..You can get a TNT2 ultra for like $15-30, that will be "decent" for gaming with a strong CPU, and fine for office use, unless its like 3d Modeling and rendering, etc..

Personally, I have a GeForce DDR in my system. The Voodoo3 3000 I bought is for a friends computer. She only uses the computer for internet access, and for using MS Office. Her kids play *some* games on it. I just needed a card that would look decent at higher resolutions. So, in short, this isn't for serious gaming...just for everyday use.

I searched probably about 30-50 sites/online vendors.....cheapest TNT2 Ultra I found was $70.....

I'm down with the Voodoo 3 too. Although I would've gone for the 2000 because it's cheaper. My V3 2000 is oc at 180/180 after hooking up a fan to it Very impressive I must say myself.

Well, I was refering to e-bay, you could easily find a regular &quot;used&quot; tnt2 or maybe even new for about $15-30, the cheapest tnt2 16 meg I found on pricewatch is $42. As for a new Tnt2 ultra, I guess it is still about $70 which is insane. Considering a Geforce2 MX is about $79. If you wanted, I still have a Tnt2 Ultra, and I will be upgrading soon, I could sell you mine, its the fastest Tnt2 Ultra, Creative Labs Tnt2 ultra 32meg. I could sell it to you for $40-50 if you wanted. Works great still
